Micro-Gravity Survey within Northwich, to Detect Possible Further Subsidence Due to Collapsed Salt Mines

  • Dissertation Preparation and Research including a detailed Desk Study of the Area using ArcGIS and EDINA Digima.
  • Proficiency using equipment such as the Sintrex-CG5 Auto-Grav has been essential and I have become very comfortable using this technique.

Key components

  • Two days in the field along Marsden Canal.
  • Micro-Gravity survey, conducted along 62 points with a 5m and 20m spacing. 5m spacing's were used over the most unstable area of the underlying mine.
  • A Total Station and Prism pole survey was conducted to evaluate movement.
  • Primary data was compared to previous years' data to observe possible subsidence rates.

  • Participation and completion of a field safety course in preparation for fieldwork in Spain.
  • Ability to confidently perform health and safety tasks within the field and a work environment.
  • Cumulatively spending over 4 weeks participating in Filed work, including Spain(Almeria) and Snowdon(North-Wales) has allowed me to greatly build upon Independent and group based tasks in a professional environment, where it is vital to be deadline-conscious, health and safety-conscious, and motivated.
  • Fieldwork gave me relevant experience with industry-standard Mapping techniques and Map making/Processing techniques completed largely to a first honors level.
