Work History

Store Manager

Dulux Decorator Centre
Northampton
07.2021 - Current
  • I am currently employed as a store Manager for Dulux decorator centre. This was an intentional change in direction as I felt that it was the right time for a new challenge (which it certainly has been). Entering a completely new industry I had a lot to learn and as a leader I had to learn it fast.
  • I spent the first 6 months learning the industry, how this customer type operates, their needs and more importantly building relationships within the business, with the 430+ customer accounts that I am now responsible for and within the team which I have built.
  • During my time with DDC the beginning was just one of many challenges I have enjoyed, I was given the opportunity to function as a multi-site manager for a period of around 18 months, we were selected to be a hub delivery store, taking, processing and delivering orders for three separate stores and I am a subject manager expert in customer management for my sales region.
  • During my tenure we have enjoyed consistent growth, from £900k in 2021 to the £1.6mil I am on track to deliver this current year.
  • I have built a dynamic team with a sales and target driven mentality where we celebrate success and learn from the times we might not initially consider a win.
  • My main duties include the regular day to day management of a busy trade centre but also to effectively manage a sizeable account ledger (from one-man bands to national painting contractors) both proactively and reactively, growing each account by offering a comprehensive customer experience and pulling out all the stops to ensure that DDC is their number one materials supplier.
  • I am a very hands on and approachable manager, building strong relationships, developing and using my team effectively.

Assistant Practice Manager

Boots Opticians
Various store locations
03.2012 - 08.2017
  • I was offered the opportunity to join a top 20 flagship store as an assistant practice manager. The Practice Manager was restructuring the management team and requested I join her to support in upscaling the stores performance. My role and responsibilities remained the same however the scale in terms of business, challenge and number of team members was far greater (the store had a multi million turnover and had around 30 colleagues, a mix of all levels of optometrists, dispensing opticians, optical assistants and management) We were runners up for store of the year 2016. Under our leadership the store consistently exceeded financial, business and KPI and service targets. Our Customer Care was well recognised within the company and we were regularly chosen to trial company initiatives where our feedback shaped the future of company systems.
  • After my successes in the Milton Keynes store, I was asked by the regional manager to support the Wellingborough store following their recent refurbishment and store merger. I dedicated myself to inspiring each member of staff and to push them to deliver the best results to the highest possible standards from day one of becoming their new manager. I felt that I thrived in this new challenge by identifying new ways of working as a team, exploring opportunities to beat targets and concentrating on ways to continue to grow as a successful new store. My high level of responsibility in the store enabled me to build firm partnerships with operational colleagues and other healthcare professionals in the region thus giving me further insight into different areas of the business.
  • I was offered the role as Assistant Manager to support one of two Milton Keynes practices as they underwent operational changes. They were an under-performing store when I was promoted and transferred to them. With my knowledge and flair for really personable customer service, people management and detailed organisation I believe that I successfully guided the team to new levels, by modelling behaviours, complying with professional guidelines, providing support and training and ultimately meeting financial goals and KPIs. My role included the daily running of two busy clinics, admin tasks such as staff rotas and holidays, annual performance reviews, being responsible for health and safety and leading the practices day to day operation. I feel that the impact I made was a great contribution to the success of the store and it was here that I became recognised as one of the strongest leaders the company had in the area.

Optical Consultant

Boots Opticians
03.2012 - 08.2013
  • As an Optical Consultant customer service was of paramount importance. I found that I was able to very quickly build rapport and wow my customers by delivering second to none service. I would conduct the initial part of eye tests and help customers to choose and buy the best possible personalised eyewear solution. I supported optometrists in completing both clinical and administrative duties. Some of my other responsibilities included teaching contact lens removal and insertions, scheduling appointments, repairing/adjusting/fitting glasses, dealing with customer queries and complaints, updating records, NHS administration, offering frame/lens advice in line with optical prescription and dispensing to customers (single vision, bifocals, varifocals). During this time I completed a Level Two NVQ in Optical Retailing.
