Work History

Solicitor

Wilson Solicitors LLP
09.2016 - Current
  • I am a qualified solicitor specialising in immigration law
  • I practice all areas of immigration law; however, my caseload is predominantly legal aid and I specialise in asylum applications/appeals and deportation appeals
  • I have a significant client base of minors (both accompanied and unaccompanied) who are claiming asylum or making refugee family reunion applications for their family to join them in the UK
  • I also have a significant amount of experience of Judicial Review work, challenging imminent removals and making unlawful detention claims.

Legal Assistant

Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants
01.2015 - 01.2016
  • My role required me to support the casework team with a full range of immigration applications, appeals and Judicial Reviews
  • This ranged from paralegal work and conducting initial interviews with clients to carrying out legal aid billing
  • I would also provide administrative support to the policy and campaigns teams which ran national campaigns including advocating an end to the government's ‘right to rent' scheme.

Other Activities

Body and Soul Immigration Clinic

I am the legal coordinator of the immigration clinic at Body and Soul, a charity providing support to people who are HIV positive. I organise the clinic each month and ensure that each month there is a lawyer to provide legal advice. I volunteer at the clinic myself several times a year, advising on a wide variety of immigration issues as well as doing pro bono follow up work.

New North London Synagogue Destitute Asylum Seekers Drop-in

I volunteer at this drop-in where I provide legal advice to vulnerable asylum-seekers. This involves familiarising myself very quickly with an individual’s immigration situation and giving advice on their routes to leave to remain in the UK and, if relevant, advising them on the merits of their asylum application.
