Michael Gavshon

For the last 34 years I have been the London-based producer for the American broadcast 60 Minutes, which since its inception in 1968 has consistently been the most watched television news journal in the United States. During this time I have produced and directed more than 130 stories for the broadcast in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America. With an emphasis of compelling story-telling my reports have covered a wide range of subjects including conflicts, investigations, profiles of political leaders and cultural figures. Over the years I have been the recipient of 12 Emmy Awards, a Columbia du Pont, Edward R,Murrow and Sigma Delta Chi Award.

Produced comprehensive news coverage for CBS News London Bureau, including the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, Nelson Mandela's release, and the end of apartheid.

Directed network coverage of the struggle to end apartheid and the wars in Southern Africa

Covered the political conflicts in Southern Africa and the struggle to end of Apartheid. at the same time I produced pieces for BBC Newsnight

Produced and co- directed Passing the Message, a documentary which charts rise of the independent black trade union movement into a major political force in South Africa during the apartheid era.

Developed a programme that provided training in video production techniques for disenfranchised community members to facilitate political expression and education.

Served as co-founder of the first international film festival in South Africa which brought films from around the world to non-racial audiences in Cape Town.
