Michael Brookfield

Audenshaw, Manchester

Summary

I care deeply about the work I do, the people I work with, and the clients I support. I began working at sixteen in customer-facing roles, from local pubs to high-end restaurants, where I learned how to stay calm under pressure, think on my feet, listen carefully and resolve issues with empathy. These early lessons shaped how I communicate and approach challenges, and they continue to guide me today.

I've since built a career rooted in resilience, creativity and collaboration, taking pride in producing thoughtful, client-focused work that balances commercial priorities with genuine care.

Driven by curiosity and a passion for continuous growth, I've steadily developed a broad skillset across both business and creative tools. I'm confident using Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, and have hands-on experience with video and audio editing. I enjoy finding new ways to work more efficiently and communicate more effectively.

Whether I'm coordinating a bid, mentoring a colleague or improving a process, I bring a calm, practical mindset and a genuine commitment to helping the whole team grow, succeed and support one another.

Work history

Senior Bid Coordinator

APEM LTD
Manchester
05.2022 - Current
  • Initially joined the business as a Bid Administrator, where I quickly became known for my attention to detail, initiative, and collaborative approach. After a year, I was promoted to Senior Bid Coordinator in recognition of my ability to take ownership of complex bids, drive process improvements, and support wider strategic goals.
  • Led the delivery of complex, high-value bids from initial planning through to submission, applying APMP-aligned methodologies that supported clear role definition, structured review points, and strategic narrative development.
  • Worked closely with technical experts, legal teams, commercial leads, and senior stakeholders to produce responses that were not only fully compliant, but genuinely aligned with each client's values, tone, and long-term goals.
  • Took ownership of the bid process from end to end. This included identifying opportunities, managing risk, coordinating internal contributions, and preparing content for governance stages such as Bid/No-Bid meetings, Win Strategy sessions, Green and Gold reviews, and final sign-off. I ensured every step of the process was clearly communicated, well-organised, and delivered on time.
  • I take great pride in producing tailored, meaningful proposals that feel personal and relevant to the client. By researching each organisation's mission, culture, and strategic objectives, I was able to reflect what truly mattered to them in the language and structure of our responses. This helped us build stronger rapport with evaluators and stand out in competitive environments.
  • Having previously worked within the Contracting team at BUPA, I brought a deeper understanding of commercial and legal frameworks to the role. I was able to engage more confidently with our internal legal department, highlight potential risks, and suggest practical, compliant wording that strengthened our position.
  • Acted as the main point of contact for clients during the bid process. This included raising clarification questions, reworking technical content into accessible language, and ensuring all communications were handled with clarity, professionalism, and empathy.
  • Building strong relationships has always been important to me. I worked closely with colleagues across all departments and levels, including senior directors, creating an environment where honest conversations could happen easily. This allowed us to stay aligned with internal governance, meet legal and commercial requirements, and deliver bids we were genuinely proud of.
  • Supporting others is something I care deeply about. I regularly mentored junior colleagues, offered guidance, and made time to answer questions. During particularly busy periods, I was happy to roll up my sleeves and assist with admin and coordination tasks to help keep everything moving. I've never been someone who says, “that's not my job” — if it helps the team succeed, I'll do it.
  • Took a proactive role in business improvement. After identifying issues with the client feedback process, I led the redesign to include measurable tools like Net Promoter Score (NPS), creating a more efficient, cost-effective and client-centred system in collaboration with the Marketing and HSEQ teams.
  • As part of the company-wide rollout of a new CRM platform, I led training workshops for staff across all levels, from junior team members to executives. I also developed custom video tutorials that were widely praised and adopted as part of the company's internal training library.
  • Throughout challenging periods, I've been recognised for my calm, positive presence. I believe in creating a supportive atmosphere, encouraging others, and helping people feel valued and focused — especially when pressure is high. I bring energy, resilience, and a genuine sense of care to every part of the process, and I'm proud of the impact I've had both on the work itself and the people around me.

Clinician Contracts Administrator

BUPA Health Insurance
Salford, Lancashire
01.2013 - 05.2022

  • Managed high volumes of inbound communication across multiple channels, including telephone, email and webchat. I adapted my communication style depending on the platform, ensuring my responses were always appropriate, accessible and professional.
  • Regularly handled complex, sometimes emotive conversations with clinicians and customers. I drew on empathy, patience and active listening to understand the concern, de-escalate tension and guide individuals towards practical, fair outcomes. This approach helped prevent formal complaints and strengthened trust in our service.
  • Maintained and updated a busy inbox alongside daily calls, often managing 20 to 40 calls per day while tracking and resolving written and online queries efficiently and with a personal touch.
  • Oversaw the full contract lifecycle, from generating new agreements using approved templates, to tracking renewals, handling variations and managing terminations. I worked with a strong focus on compliance, accuracy and service-level alignment.
  • Advised clinicians on their contractual obligations and rights, clearly explaining terms and conditions to ensure full understanding, even in cases involving legal or operational complexity.
  • Collaborated closely with internal departments such as Legal, Commercial, Finance and Operations to ensure contracts were implemented correctly and any emerging issues were resolved quickly.
  • Summarised and explained contractual risks to stakeholders in a clear, solution-focused manner, contributing ideas that helped reduce friction and improve internal processes.
  • Played a key role in keeping data accurate and secure by regularly updating contract records in a bespoke database, ensuring GDPR compliance and smooth access for wider teams.
  • Supported wider business planning by contributing operational insights, reviewing contract performance, and identifying opportunities for service improvement.
  • Represented Bupa during external conversations and negotiations, maintaining a calm, balanced and professional tone while protecting both clinician relationships and business priorities.
  • Took initiative to support colleagues by sharing knowledge, assisting during peak periods, and contributing to team communications and training materials that improved consistency and collaboration.
