Currently the first respiratory physiologist employed in Primary care in NI, delivering an innovative advanced lung function testing service in local GP practices.

Perform advanced lung function testing in primary care as well as to upskill and mentor nurses and practice based pharmacists in basic spirometry.

Currently collaborating with several key stakeholders to create an exemplar one stop respiratory hub as part of the Dept of Health new Neighbourhood Model of care.

Currently teach on an accredited Spirometry course for practice based nurses and pharmacists. I am also an associate lecturer for Queens University and have previously taught on both the Healthcare Science undergraduate course at Ulster University and the post grad respiratory nursing course. This is occasional and sessional work.

Currently undertake occasional locum work in Dublin.

This is to remained skilled in advanced lung function testing that I currently dont have exposure to in my current role.

Summary of Duties

• Lecture undergraduate students in Respiratory Clinical Physiology
• I was responsible for approximately 60 students between 1st year and 3rd year
• Coordination of nine different modules and academic lead on clinical placement
• Designed exams, assessments and course content, including lecture material and writing assignments.
• Reported on programme data to support course management.
• Monitored students' progress against educational targets, implementing positive interventions.
• Recruited students by speaking at open days and off-site promotional events.
• Liaise with Practice Educators within the Trusts and manage students in clinical practice
• I was also successful in securing funding and setting up a whole new respiratory and sleep lab at the University and was involved in the tender process for the new equipment.

Summary of Duties

• Performing full lung function tests including specialist tests like bronchial challenge, bronchial responsiveness, cardio pulmonary exercise tests, respiratory muscle function measurements (sitting and lying VC / MIPs & MEP's), FENO
• Performing sleep apnoea diagnostics - Overnight oximetry, limited polysomnography (LPSG)
• Interpreting and reporting LPSG
• Initiating and reviewing CPAP therapy, providing education and support to new and struggling patients
• Ensuring departmental Standard operating procedures are followed and regularly reviewed.
• I also organised the Regional Respiratory Group meetings which had some influential guest speakers from ARTP and ERS.
