The skills I have gained throughout my career are based in frontline work with the public These include working to centre the person, supporting their autonomy in empowerment (working in strength based ways)
I am able to technically ground my decision making in research evidence with support of theory and social work models following implementing training, at University, in attainment of my Bachelor of Arts Social Work Degree
Having worked in the Social Work arena for some time I confidently apply research and the law ethically to my cases to inform clients within the s9 Care Act 2014 Assessment My practice is described by professionals from within the service and externally as "progressive" and "outstanding" Creativity and testing how research can be applied in practice, to individual cases and concerns, has garnered positive results/feedback, from clients and professionals, noted as supporting client individual resilience in a period of overarching budget constraint I believe this is due to the innovation of sharing of qualitative research within the s9 Care Act Assessment, enabling and empowering the client, supportive of personal development in deeper understanding following interrogation of their particular issues and areas of concern Sharing the Assessment documentation, particularly in complex cases, with involved agencies, with the clients consent has supported dissemination of information and increased professional awareness
Research and social law application has subsequently evolved into a passion and a key tool in engagement
Research not only supports in/on action reflection but guards again self conscious bias
Research and social work law (specifically the Equality Act 2010, Care Act 2014, Human Rights Act 1998, Children's Act 1989 and Mental Capacity Act 2005) has supported respectful challenge to organisations where there is evidenced to be a gap or barrier to service
I would like the opportunity to share this knowledge and experience of effective practice with fellow Social Workers, at the start of their careers to support engagement with research and the law in positive ways that I believe, and has my experience, increases the respect for and influence of Social Work as a profession
