Personal profile - An enthusiastic and motivated sixth form student aiming to gain an accounting apprenticeship, work hard and contribute to a dynamic team. Eager to apply strong communication and interpersonal skills within this sector to improve my future potential of working in the financial services industry as an accountant, which is my personal goal.
Communication - As a dedicated member of my football team, it is essential to communicate effectively, to allow us to achieve constructive teamwork within the game, maximising victories. I have also developed this skill at school through coursework and extracurricular activities such as the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Working under pressure - Additionally, I have taken first aid courses, which were completed to a high standard. This experience allowed me to develop the ability to work well under pressure. Also gaining essential skills such as basic first aid, CPR training and the use of a defibrillator.
Critical thinking - Currently studying Maths, Chemistry & Economics at A-Level, which requires applied, organised and detailed critical thinking to problem-solve questions successfully, which helps to develop a deeper understanding of the subject and regularly attain consistent high grades.
Responsibility - Having regularly demonstrated this skill by showing commitment to completing tasks accurately and on time to a high standard. This attribute was demonstrated through planning a charity Supercar event to raise money for our local Hospice.
Planning / Aiming high - Dedicated to working hard through academic studies to attain maximum potential grades, which will allow me to apply for an apprenticeship in accountancy, which is my goal.
Accuracy/Numeracy - Currently studying A-level maths, Economics and Chemistry, which requires a high level of precision, numeracy and data analysis within these subjects.
I shadowed departmental managers, assisted in updating client data spreadsheets, and helped prepare letters of engagement. I was also given the task of working on a balance sheet. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Charity team, it gave me a valuable understanding of how accountancy operates within the charity sector.
GFI Group provided a week's work experience allowing me to gain invaluable knowledge shadowing the broker's activities within GFI. Experiencing working directly within departments covering Commodities & Emerging Markets, I greatly enjoy being part of this fast-paced energetic environment.
I benefited from insight days to gain experience and understanding of the functions of Investment Banking. We were hypothetically tasked with analysing financial data on a Mid Cap stocks portfolio, to present our evaluated investment decision based on company performance to an investment banker.
I spent invaluable time working and observing within the Business Services Team. I assisted with updating organisational information and preparing letters of engagement for both current and prospective clients. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience within this team, finding the work both engaging and fulfilling. I also gained a good insight into how accountancy operates within the Business Service team and the different functions they perform.
A day shadowing and experiencing the daily workings of the bank from an IT perspective. This helped me to improve my understanding of the industry and how teams successfully work cohesively together within the bank.
