A dedicated advocate for individuals with Autism and additional needs, leveraging personal experience to enhance understanding and support. Passionate about the rights of children and adults with learning and physical disabilities, with a proven track record in volunteering within the field of learning disabilities. Committed to ensuring informed decision-making as a trustee and volunteer, striving to meet the needs and rights of those with disabilities at all times.
I joined the board of trustees at Braintree District Mencap Society. This was after attending an Annual General Meeting to find out more about the charity. I had a personal interest as I have a son with Autism and additional needs.
I stayed on the board and also became a volunteer. I left the trustee board around 4 years ago as I felt the need to step back and do more hands on volunteering.
The volunteer role is still ongoing; Now I am retired I am able to do this several times a week and assist people with additional needs with music and drama classes. I also help on a Gateway Club evening and also fund raising events.
I also joined the board of trustees at the Royal Almshouses in Bocking. I have been a trustee for around 15 years.
The skills I bring is in my own personal experience of having a son with Autism and additional needs
This over the years has led to me wanting to volunteer in the field of learning disabilities which has increased my understanding of other disabilities and life limiting conditions
I am passionate about the needs and rights of children and adults with additional needs and feel I have a role to play in ensuring that wherever I am able to, I can assist in good decision making in my capacity of trustee and volunteer to ensure that that the rights and needs of children and adults with learning and physicial disabilities are met at all times
