Work history

Diary Manager

Gavin Robinson MP
Belfast, Antrim
2019.03 - Current

I have worked for Mr Robinson in his busy political office now for close to 6 years, I have grown from a novice parliamentary liaison into a competent and enthusiastic Diary Manager and Constituency Caseworker.

I have built key working relationships within other Political offices, Her Majesty's Passport Office, housing associations such as Radius, Choice, and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Also, effective and strong relationships with area commanders within the Police Service of Northern Ireland, both the South-Eastern & Belfast health trusts and also effective contacts within Belfast and Lisburn / Castlereagh Councils. All of these working relationships allow me to deliver fast, thorough and robust casework for constituents and their needs.

Police officer

Police Service of Northern Ireland
Lisburn, Down
2017.10 - 2019.01

During my tenure as a Police Officer I was usually assigned as callsign BL70 meaning I was the first responder to any calls requiring Police attendance. Calls ranged from but not limited to, house searches, road traffic accidents and attending Sudden deaths. All actions taken whilst on response calls are always accountable through the national decision model.

Furthermore, Police work encompasses many different ways of working including the vital role played by Policing and Community Safety Partnerships in which I participated weekly which involved engaging with community figures to defuse tensions, secure funding, provide advice & guidance. All of which work towards building safer, shared and confidence in the Police from local communities.

Skills

Working alongside Mr Robinson for the last few years I have engaged, participated in and delivered several projects to ensure they are delivered to a high standard within an agreed time frame

An example of such a campaign / project is that of parking issues within the Ulster hospital and surrounding areas in Dundonald I undertook the project from the start, engaging with constituents, organising the leafleting of the area to not only inform the residents of our involvement but to gain additional comments in order to build a presentable case to the Department for Infrastructure and if / when necessary, the PSNI Upon engagement we sought to develop a workable strategy to resolve both the short term and long-term parking issues Once the agreed plan was implemented, I allowed for a grace period to allow the new strategies time to work all the while engaging with the original constituent and their neighbours Following any tweaks / snags to the scheme, I designed, planned and delivered a new leaflet to follow up on the previous one to inform our constituents of the progress made and the plans going forward

Whilst working for the PSNI and taking part in weekly PCSP outreach programs I took the lead on dealing with Anti-Social behaviour within the Lisburn and Castlereagh district Prior to organising these events it was a necessity to meet with the PSNI's Senior Management Teams throughout the district to hear, discuss and agree on what resources and budgets where to be made available and manged during the courses Arranging information and activity outreach programs where the Police brought in specialist units such as the dog units, anti-terrorism squads and roads policing experts took time, knowledge and logistic to be able to do successfully Targeting young adults within the district was achieved by inviting local youth groups such as football teams, flute bands, GAA teams and restorative justice programs The organising and production of these programs gave me a huge sense of pride as I delivered them in a very laid-back whilst professional manner where both the PSNI and the locals where humanised rather than an authoritarian delivery Response and attendance of the courses steadily grew from when I took the lead due to what I believe was a hugely successful, meaningful and community focused program
