Work History

PhD Student

Institute Of Cancer Research
10.2024 - Current
  • Started my PhD project with the aim to identify novel therapeutic approaches targeting DNA damage repair pathways in ATRX mutated neuroblastoma.
  • Overall goal of project is to identify specific dependencies in ATRX mutated cancers in the context of DNA damage using a range of range of multiomic approaches.

Scientific Officer

Institute Of Cancer Research
11.2023 - 10.2024
  • Undertook the position of scientific officer in Dr Sally George's Developmental Oncology lab in the clinical studies division focusing on high-risk neuroblastoma research to further understand tumour biology to aid in the development of new therapies and treatment biomarkers
  • Gained experience in cell culture, siRNA and shRNA, CRISPR Cas9, plasmid generation, drug combination studies, western blotting, Immunofluorescence, confocal imagining, maintaining detailed records of experiments and adhering to established guidelines.
  • Assisted other researchers with their projects as well as undertook my own research.
  • Represented the lab at a variety of different conferences in neuroblastoma and childhood cancers.
  • Presented research findings at meeting and seminars.

Masters Research Student

Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute
05.2023 - 09.2023
  • Undertook a 4 month research project in Professor Jen Morton's Lab which involved testing the efficacy of an ATR inhibitor and MEK inhibitor in pancreatic cancer cells lines with defects in DDR pathways to find potential new therapies.
  • Gained experience in key molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, western blotting, clongoenic assay and drug combination studies.
  • Maintained meticulous records of research activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with ethical guidelines.
  • Gained experience as an independent researcher planning experiments to meet my own hypotheses.

Undergraduate Research Student

University of Edinburgh
01.2022 - 05.2022
  • Undertook a research project that involved an analysis of different neuronal populations within the postsubiculum of a rat model of Fragile X syndrome.
  • Gained extensive experience in working with animal models including animal handling and preforming experiments.
  • Utilized advanced statistical software (Prism, FIJI, R studio, MATLAB) to conduct thorough data analyses.
  • Improved overall lab safety by implementing proper procedures while handling chemicals or hazardous materials during experiments.
  • Presented findings to other group members, showcasing the value of undergraduate research contributions.
