I have a wealth of experience in education and extensive knowledge of pedagogical techniques. I am a dedicated, loyal and enthusiastic teacher and can communicate well with young people and adults alike. I have a unshakable belief in the power of music to transform people’s lives and currently am working with the Cheryl King charitable Trust to provide support for children from disadvantaged backgrounds to enable them to receive tuition in music.
I believe I am someone who takes on new challenges harnessing interpersonal skills, collaboration and problem-solving to deliver high-quality service and consistent results.
I was responsible for the development of the Arts faculty and ensuring all subjects and staff were up to speed with, or leading whole school improvement initiatives.
Within that overall framework I was also responsible for leading the music department in all aspects; from curriculum design and educational scaffolding, to the progress and success of individual pupils. Academic results for both the faculty and music department were always excellent and highly rated by Ofsted over many years.
I successfully motivated and engaged pupils with the love of making music; many of whom have gone on to highly successful careers as professional musicians in their own right.
I have run music ensembles, productions, concerts, orchestral and jazz workshops and music tours to many destinations from Salzburg to Paris. I facilitated the pupils to work with NYJO (initiative with Surrey Arts) and a series of a Capella vocal workshops with members of Apollo 5 amongst many other events.
As part of my responsibilities over the years, I have also been Head of Year, Director of Upper school, form tutor and Child Protection trained.
All responsibilities pertaining to running a music department, including world schools premiere of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, and a piano workshop with the Labeque sisters. One of my pupils also won the BBC young composers competition and another pupil the Yamaha National Rock competition, runner up and subsequently winner the following year. I organised a rock workshop with Herbie Flowers, and multiple school productions, concerts and events.
I consistently arrived at work on time and ready to start immediately and frequently worked well above my stated hours.
I was responsible for teaching music up to GCSE and A level focusing mainly on theory and harmony. HMI inspectors rated my work very highly. I also ran a brass group, writing and arranging repertoire as needed.
