Throughout my time at PACE British Sharjah, I have had the opportunity to work with a year 2 class consisting of pupils from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan within my class alone.
This has allowed me to work on further differentiation and more effective methods of scaffolding something that is essential within any age phase of a school.
Throughout my class, I have worked on installing high expectations and self belief within pupils to ensure that they are able to achieve to their full potential. This has involved using assessment data to tailor individual learning to the needs of each pupil.
Within my current role, it has provided me with the experience of working in a fee paying school for the first time. Within these environments, scrutiny from parents is of a more intense nature which has led to a further adaptation and development of my communication with parents to ensure they are aware of their child's wider school progression along with, the steps we are taking in school to further assist. Venturing into key stage one for the first time has also allowed me to explore phonics for the first time although, this is something I would like to continue to develop my understanding in, so I can implement this across any age phase if necessary.
Within this role, I visited a number of primary schools with a wide range of social challenges and had the opportunity to coach golf to classes across key stage one and key stage two.
Having the opportunity to coach different classes on a daily basis showed me the importance of quickly setting high expectations to ensure consistent behaviour from all pupils and the importance of modelling to ensure that pupils' are aware of the correct behaviours and the expectations for the task.
Throughout my job, the main aspects of my role were:
Throughout the course of my teaching career I have had the chance to refine my behaviour management strategies Through this I have learned the importance of keeping pupils motivated which has led to a greater utilisation of positive praise strategies and rewards A key ethos of mine, is ensuring that positive behaviours are rewarded so pupils' are able to see the justification for trying to improve
Within my own life, sport and PE has played a pivotal role, having competed in national level competitions in my own sporting life I have also had the opportunity to complete over 100 hours of voluntary sport leadership in schools, developing my confidence and understanding of how to make PE engaging across the board This led to a diploma in sport at sixth form and eventually, a subject specialism in PE
Safeguarding is a key responsibility for every member of staff working within a school and should be something that all teachers are aware of Through my time at university, I had the opportunity to develop my safeguarding knowledge by completing prevent training, which focused on the identification of behaviours which indicated the radicalisation of young people
Through my time in school, I have developed a real appreciation for the impact an effective TA can have on the classroom This is why I have made a conscious effort to ensure that I have a strong level of communication with my support staff This has allowed me to challenge pupils' of all attainment levels further and has created a greater level of purpose for my planning and assessment
