Served as a Royal Engineer for nine years in the British Army.

Undertook a two year apprenticeship at the Army Apprentice College Chepstow where I obtained a City and Guilds qualification in Carpentry and Joinery.

As well as being fully trained as an infantry soldier my job role was as a combat engineer and artisan tradesman (carpenter and joiner). I was also a HGV qualified hazardous goods (ADR) licence driver and radio signaller.

I learnt a vast selection of combat engineering skills that enabled me to support personnel across every part of the battlefield.

Deployed on three operational six month tours to the former country of Yugoslavia and one to Northern Ireland. For each of these operations I was awarded a medal.

Worked all over the world on various deployments including Kenya, Canada, The Falkland Islands, Italy and BAOR Germany.

Was involved in active combat and disaster relief operations.

My unit was at the forefront, effecting rapid repairs to damaged infrastructure in stricken areas.

Was promoted to a junior non commissioned officer. This saw me responsible for the leadership, management and welfare of soldiers I served with.
