  • Troubleshot technical issues with lab equipment (e.g. Advia 2120i, Sebia Capillary 3 OCTA, Tosoh G11) to avoid downtime during critical testing periods. Assistants were expected to have analysers operational by themselves, exploring all reasonably expected avenues before requesting Siemens engineer support. Improved equipment performance through regular maintenance and calibration tasks.
  • Manually tested select samples through G6PD, Malaria screens. Testing included quality control of individual kits, and also extended to sample preparation by way of creating blood films for BMS analysis.
  • Rotated into attached Haemoglobinopathy assay service over a nine month period to assist service and expand understanding of overall Haematology department, which required excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate preliminary resulting according to algorithm (pending final verification by Senior BMS)
  • Delivered high standard of accuracy and records-keeping in use of EPIC software to book onboarding patient samples and query incorrect requests; maintained one of the lowest error rates on the team as noted by management. Specimen Reception team were estimated to be booking, on average, 10,000-20,000 samples daily.
  • Performed daily and weekly stock checks of analyser reagents and replacement parts, stock rotation of reagents, and reordering of reagents and parts from Siemens headquarters
  • Fridge temperature monitoring and correct sample storage expected as part of this role, and previous role with Specimen Reception team (October 2018-June 2021)
  • Assisted Biomedical Scientists in all their expected duties.
