Accomplishments
Undertook a study on furnace which experienced several incidents, in and around the matte taphole area. Through investigation water-based clay was identified as causing turbulence inside the furnace and found that tar-based clay is a better alternative with a high level of success. The use of tar-based clay necessitated the move from pneumatic to hydraulic mud guns at the smelter. Following this study, high-pressure rating hydraulic mud guns with the ability to regulate the amount of taphole sealing were also installed at the plant.
Initiated a bankable feasibility study to increase sulphide ores milling capacity by 5% from 2.2Mtpa to 2.3Mtpa following a period of unfavourable ore feed particle size distribution at the Concentrator through the introduction of High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) and Feed Preparation Plant (FPP). The increase in mill volume has necessitated an upgrade in the flotation circuit.
Currently undertaking test work on the MACH Reactor to see its suitability for recovery improvement in the flotation circuit.
