At Gap, I am a mobile fitter. This means I attend sites to meet customer needs; I do a lot of diagnosing, identifying problems, and rectifying them to a very high standard. I also do a lot of onsite servicing when a machine is on hire for a long time, so that we keep the machines well maintained.
I am confident and proficient in my skills, as I have had a lot of experience in the trade; I have now been with GAP for five years and the company prior to this, Brandon Tool Hire, for another five years.
My skill set has enabled me to be a coaching mentor for an apprentice for the past three years, both in the workshop and sometimes out on site.
When I'm not on site, I am helping my colleagues in the workshop to service machinery and make them ready for hire; I also work on small tools, pumps, and electrical equipment. On top of this, I also service trailers. Having to use electrical testing equipment on and off site, I do have my P.A.T testing ticket and have recently acquired my E.C.S card. With my job, I am able to work with customers closely and build myself a good working atmosphere on all sites, as this helps massively with good communication with the customer, but also with my office, and makes the job more efficient. I also act as foreman when the foreman is off, so I ensure my colleagues have the correct daily jobs to carry out, and do so in a safe manner, following the correct procedures. I also do a lot of the ordering of parts needed and contact direct suppliers to meet manufacturing specifications, ensuring the machines' longevity. I find myself carrying out so many different jobs every day as I work with so many different components, such as different types of engines, electrical systems, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
I have received extensive training and completed various courses throughout my years working in the trade, and I have obtained all my safety training, lone working qualifications for working on site, and first aid certification. In regard to courses stemming from ten years of experience, some of which include:
in my spare time I enjoy playing video games, go karting with mates and rebuilding crash damaged cars.
as well as helping my girlfriend with her horses.
