Maryam Frej

I am a Research Assistant at the University of Birmingham with experience in cognitive neuroscience research using MEG (magnetoencephalography) and EEG (electroencephalography). My work involves supporting experimental design, data collection, and preprocessing of neuroimaging data, as well as contributing to analysis using relevant research tools and statistical methods. I am interested in understanding the neural mechanisms underlying cognition and behaviour through advanced neurophysiological techniques.

I support ongoing research and teaching activities within the psychology department at Birmingham Newman University. The role involves assisting faculty and research staff with providing technical assistance during lectures or practical sessions. I am also responsible for operating and maintaining research equipment, such as cognitive testing software like, Gorilla, psychological devices, or behavioural observation systems.

Additional duties often include coding and analysing data using statistical software (e.g., SPSS), and ensuring compliance with ethical standards and data protection regulations.

I provided support to children with Special Educational Needs. The role involves working closely with teachers to deliver tailored learning support, often on a one-to-one or small group basis, to help pupils access the curriculum and achieve their academic potential.

Key responsibilities include assisting with lesson activities, adapting materials to meet individual learning needs, supporting behaviour management, and providing emotional and social support to pupils.

I worked with a range of SEN and mainstream children across multiple schools in Birmingham supporting their progression in their academic learning journey. I provided one-to-one learning and emotional support as well as behavioural guidance.

I worked with a team to process students’ applications, inputted student data into student data systems and followed up student records. I provided high quality customer service to clients and dealt with enquiries in person, by email, and on the telephone.

I supported school administrative staff with filing and record keeping tasks. I also managed student queries at reception desk, improving service delivery standards and helped create student ID cards.
