Additional Information

I am currently a Team Leader at HMP Whymott. Prior to this I worked in the Clinical Investigation Unit at Chorley Hospital. I have developed excellent skills and knowledge in caring for people with long term health conditions and medicine management.

During my nurse training I have gained valuable communication and interpersonal skills, which I have further developed as a staff nurse. I am ab to communicate effectively us both verbal and nonverbal commands and using common aids when required, for example when a patient is hearing impaired or does not speak English. I have excellent written communication skills and keep accurate, legible and up to date notes and documentation.

As a nurse I have been involved with multidisciplinary team meetings and decision making. When patients have been unable to be involved in their own care I have acted as an advocate For them expressing their wishes arou treatment and future care. I have developed skills in multiagency work which includes liaising with, and referring patients to other services. I am very self motivated and able to motivate others, which I have demonstrated well through supporting students and new staff.

I was the lead mentor at Clinical Investigation Unit and responsible for students on the unit. I cascaded training to other members of staff and arranged for staff to complete their mentorship training. I have also assessed and trained stu and new staff on cannulation and venepuncture.

I am very aware of the importance of evide based practice and I continually read and research in order to further my knowledge and improve my practice. In my previous role on Clinical Investigation Unit I helped deliver the Covid and Flu vaccination programmes. I will continue to research and widen my knowledge as I believe it is integral to delivering high quality nursing care. I will continue to further my CPD and attend courses relevant to my practice.

As a Covid champion I completed the relevant training and cascaded to the wider team. I always ensure we have a safe area of work and ens infection control procedures are always adhered to in order to protect staff.

Over the years I have developed excellent organisational and time management skills. I am now able to use my time effectively and prioritise my work load very well. I have found these skills to be inval as I work within a busy and challenging environment with a large workload.

I regularly take charge of the unit as a lead nurse. This includes allocating the relevant work to staff according to skill, reviewing and acting on blood results, arranging appointments for patients, organising patient prescriptions and ensuring that they are ready for the patient treatment.

I have had experience of various computer systems. I am very competent in using software packages. I use computers as part of my role to order clinical tests, order medications, look up patient records and check test results.

I am a caring, compassionate and committed nurse who is positive, friendly and approachable. I have excellent communication, time management and organisational skills. I am a good role model, self motivated and able to motivate and lead others. I am flexible with working hours and am able to work shifts when required.
