August 2021 – Current – WestRock – Middleweight Structural Designer Being a designer at WestRock East Kilbride, I am learning carton design using solid board and board to board materials, I have been assigned the role of Tube champion where I create samples for Hamilton. During my time at WestRock I have helped the team learn new ways of pushing Artios as a 3d modelling tool, I have also been able to tie in with our graphic designer where, I create models, convert to .ZAE to allow artwork to be added, then create an augmented reality model through the use of a QR code. WestRock uses SketchFab for artwork models, I was able to resolve an orientation issue throughout the group (models project in the correct orientation, facing forward and correct way around every time) and shared this solution with WestRock America. Client base includes the spirits, retail, medical and E-commerce industries. Use of a Zund 1600 is used daily as my main role is cutting samples. I am keen to expand my knowledge and skillset to take the necessary steps to progress my career, with the vision of obtaining a senior leadership role in the future. I am on the final year of a BSc in packaging and technology. This is a first of it’s kind degree (myself being part of the very first cohort) and has companies including Saica, Smurfit Kappa, Unilever, Nestle, Muller and Premier Foods attending. Packaging is a key element in any business both locally and globally, and being part of packaging allows an understanding of materials which, allows me to help those around me, understand why there are several types, why some are good, some still requiring development in infrastructure to make them part of a closed loop system which does not impact our worlds environment. Membership with IOM3 is opening the door to becoming a chartered professional. This would allow me to learn so much more and become a true specialist within packaging and materials, and hopefully create new, pioneering solutions for the future.

I have been able to draw from a young age at quite a high level, when I get the chance I still enjoy picking up a pencil and paper.
Music has been an enjoyment for a long time, more so when i became a dj in my younger years, now I simply listen to what makes me feel good and energetic.
Movies will always be great, taking you to a new place and capturing your mind, Horror and Sci-Fi are my favorite genres.
I have been training and taking care of myself physically since my teens, this followed a severe break in my right knee, ever since it has become a habit and a way of life.
Cooking goes hand in hand with training, in order to develop in the gym, you need to eat well and make healthy choices every meal, meal prep is a big part of my day to day routine.
Technology has always amazed me, from playing F1 on an Atari, to now gaming on an Xbox series X, I became a technology geek at a young age. As I have got older, technology advancements in materials, communication platforms, Augmented reality, 3D printing, it almost feels like there is something new everyday which is really exciting.
