Currently I work as a Mental Health Practice Lead, in Gateshead Young Peoples Service. In this position, I have worked in the service for over 1 year. Within this role, I support staff in dealing with incidents, supporting them with clinical queries and completing face risk assessments. Also, supporting Management within the service with any mental health queries.
Previously I was a Trainee Occupational Health Advisor with a private company. My duties include, assessing staff if they are fit/not fit to return to work or be at work. Liaising with Managers regarding outcomes of assessments, also signposting them to other support.
As a Community Mental Health Nurse, I primarily worked into GP practices providing short term psychological interventions up to 6 sessions. Part of the role is to assess for suitability, as a Primary Care Service and refer inappropriate referrals to the most appropriate service. As a Nurse Specialist(Mental Health), I was working in an Occupational Health Department. The role included, assessing mental health referrals for staff in the trust, providing short term psychological interventions up to 6 sessions, teaching staff about mental health and available services to access. Prior to leaving the post, I had introduced a pathway and training to support staff and Manager's, to deal with staff who were feeling suicidal or at risk of self harming.
I worked at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The role included assessing patients in the Accident and Emergency Department, as well as on the ward for their mental health, also assessing risk. As well as signposting and referring patients to services for further support, and liaising with medical staff regarding patients to be assessed under the Mental Health Act. Another part of the role was to educate staff on the medical/surgical wards about mental health.
I worked in the Sunderland Psychological Well-being Service for 5 years. The roles I held were, a Community Mental Health Nurse as well as being an IPT Therapist. As a CPN, I was triaging patients and treating them for common mental health conditions, using psychological interventions up to 6 sessions. As an IPT Therapist, assessing and treating appropriate patients with depression using the IPT framework. Part of the role was that I ran a Veterans Well-being group, which included education on mental health as well as having military services attend to talk about their service and what support they offer.
