I believe that the careers that I have followed have enabled me to develop very good time management and organisational skills. I am very reliable and am hard working, happy to follow my own initiative but just as content to be part of a team . I pride myself on having integrity, am honest and dependable. I think common sense is as important as an underlying skill set and am both pragmatic and also willing to learn. I take pride in the work that I have and will do in the future and believe in the idea that if a job is worth doing then it is worth doing well. I will always go the extra mile.
I think that I am a good communicator and am approachable, I try hard to get along with people of all ages and from any backgrounds. I have worked in all kinds of settings in the UK and abroad and this experience has provided me with opportunities to adapt to and understand many different people.
I moved to Cambodia and taught English as a volunteer in an NGO
Self-employed as a precision template maker. I travelled across the UK to make wooden templates from which domestic and commercial stone worktops were cut. This required good customer facing skills as I often worked in people's homes and workplaces. I had to work to very high tolerances as mistakes would result in costly errors and disappointed customers.
Responsible for day to day management and running of a busy 26 roomed hotel. Staff support and training. Financial oversight including purchasing and stocktaking. Building maintenance and liaising with external professionals and contractors.
General managerial duties, staff support, client liaison, business development and support.
I have had 3 distinct career pathways, initially in hospitality, then in building and construction and finally a significant change by qualifying in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and moving to Cambodia for the last 8 years
All of these roles have provided me with different skills but also a number that are transferable to a variety of work environments
I am a chef and have been employed in a number of positions including as a head chef I have also had managerial experience in hotels and restaurants including staff management, support and training
As a template cutter I worked independently and managed the logistics of working in very varied environments across the UK This required planning, organisation as well as good communication skills
I worked for 19 years for the specialist architectural and building company Modern Ac Ltd in London The company specialised in bespoke, handcrafted and high-end finish conversions and new builds Whilst I am not qualified in any of the specialist trades I worked across all areas of construction to levels short of those requiring certification and always with appropriate levels of supervision and safety In my final few years with the company I took on a more logistical role including provisioning, stock management, smaller site management and client liaison
In 2014 I undertook a TEFL course and this enabled me to move to Cambodia in 2016 where I have been teaching until I returned to the UK in June 2024 This role required significant levels of communication, no easy task in a very different country and culture - I hope I achieved this with care, consideration and increasing understanding and skill A very new career for me which required me to develop teaching plans and create resources, both physical and on-line
