Emergency medicine

• Assessed, diagnosed, and managed acutely unwell patients across Resus, Majors, Ambulatory, and Paediatric ED
• Gained experience of common ED procedures including fascila iliaca blocks, fracture maniupulation, and wound closure

Haematology

• Managed inpatients with haematological conditions including malignancies, sickle cell disease, and those undergoing chemotherapy
• Gained experience in managing acute complications such as neutropenic sepsis, sickle cell crises, and chemotherapy-related adverse effects
• Followed local chemotherapy and transfusion protocols, escalating concerns appropriately

Respiratory

• Gained experience managing patients with respiratory conditions (e.g., pneumonia, asthma, COPD)
• Provided cover for MADU (medical acute dependency unit) and gained further experience managing patient on NIV or patient's requiring close monitoring
• Gained experience of acute medical presentation through the medical take
• Gained experience of independently reviewing patients in ambulatory care, escalating concerns to senior colleagues as appropriate.

General Surgery

• Assessed and managed a range of acute and elective surgical patients
• Participated in ward rounds and surgical reviews; escalated clinical concerns appropriately
• Assisted in theatre during both elective and emergency cases
• Developed confidence in managing common surgical presentations and postoperative care

Renal Medicine

• Managed patients with acute and chronic kidney disease, including those on haemodialysis
• Conducted regular ward rounds and supported senior clinicians with procedures (e.g., vascath insertions)
• Gained exposure to fluid and electrolyte management, anaemia of chronic disease, and renal replacement therapy

Endocrinology & Rheumatology

• Cared for patients with endocrine and autoimmune disorders, including diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, and connective tissue diseases
• Managed complications such as diabetic foot infections and glycaemic emergencies (hypo/hyperglycaemia)
• Requested and interpreted relevant investigations; actioned consultant-led management plans
• Participated in general medical on-calls, enhancing skills in acute care and clerking
