Summary

Currently, I am in my final year of my bachelors degree in Journalism and Publishing at London College of Communication with a focus on print and online journalism. In my time in London, I have ran and managed my own publication and worked in both broadcast and print journalism in addition my work as a freelance and part time photographer. I present a number of skills through my range of work such as my artistic direction, interviewing skills, persistency in good quality content, photographic ability and technical writing expertise.

Twentieth Magazine is an independent publication that I created in March 2019. I work as a writer, photographer, editor and art director as well as an overall coordinator of the magazine and anything related to the upcoming issues. More specifically:

  • Applied understanding of public and more importantly artist opinion to create engaging and informative stories.
  • Carried out day-to-day duties accurately and efficiently to ensure the progress of the first issue.
  • Developed plans and strategies to promote the publication and future work related to it.
  • Produced knowledgeable editorials and commentaries on topics of interest such as music, fashion art, literature and social issues.
  • Expressed organizational views publicly through planned and well-written pieces.
  • Organized material, determined area of emphasis and wrote stories according to the editorial style that I created for the theme of the publication.
  • Interviewed individuals to present artwork and discuss personal journeys in art that readers would be interested in.
  • Researched, drafted and edited all features and picked our articles from other writers to feature in the publication while maintaining excellent quality standards in line with Twentieth's theme and overall style.

The first issue, released on 20th August 2021, named 'New Age' is a deep exploration into the work and lives of young artists in London as well as closer look into the current state of youth culture. At this point in time. the second issue 'Volume Virtuosity' is a music focused issue that will be including some of London's finest underground artists. Issue two of the publication will be released in August 2024.

Event photographer

Plur Project is a London based event production working across the UK and primarily London. I started working as their event photographer and have been documenting their parties and events for over a year. I shoot on both film and digital formats for their events and recently did a feature using my images and an interview with the production duo for two publications including my own. My role included

  • Turned the production's concepts into reality while portray the atmosphere of the events accurately resulting in receiving consistent positive feedback.
  • Maintained a good and professional relationship with the founders of Plur Project and persistently meeting their needs for images.
  • Created photographs for commercial needs for the production as well as using photographs for their social media presence.
  • Worked with film, digital and mobile technology to meet needs of my client and their audience.
  • Worked with the founders to bring creative visions to life which including including professional discussions on creative direction and aesthetical choices.
  • Archived photographs on computers and servers to prevent losing vital images and keeping secure image back catalogues.
  • Conceptualized quality portraits and wider images in short timing to capture the atmosphere as well as discussing the event with attendees to grasp better understanding of what I want to shoot.

Arts journalist

Artefact Magazine

I produced four written pieces as an arts journalist for Artefact Magazine during my six months working at the publication. I contributed interviews and features of up and coming musicians and music spaces as well as commentary on exhibitions, In addition to my work as an arts journalist, I also contributed a piece on culture and lifestyle. My role at Artefact included:

  • Interviewed individuals to compile important stories and carefully depict artists.
  • Crafted compelling pieces for online and print publication, coordinating images and layout for optimized presentation.
  • Covered current and relevant discussions tailored to the Artefact target audience.
  • Expressed organizational views throughout my journalistic process resulting in well-planned and well-written pieces.
  • Helped local businesses, such as The Nag's Head in Peckham, as well as emerging artists such as Obi Psalms and Plur Project, to obtain needed publicity through this publications platform.
  • Conducted research on assigned topics such as African art, musical processes and genre analysis to generate content at a high level of quality.
  • Supported team by demonstrating respect and willingness to help, such as subbing and reading over other writers pieces and assisting with images and aesthetical choices.
  • Used Microsoft Word and WordPress to create documents and online layout.
  • Created and maintained a level of artistic direction with my own pieces through the use of my own photographs.
  • Produced my own images for the majority of my articles and also proposed for said images to be used as the cover resulting in my image being the cover for the most recent print issue.


Broadcast journalist

In January 2022, I worked as a music correspondent for South West London based radio station Riverside Radio. I was the first music correspondent in the radio's art department. In my position I preformed the following duties:

  • Researched guests, artists and musicians to develop profile and identify interesting questions.
  • Memorised and delivered scripts.
  • Consistently found new artists to interview in the South West London area.
  • Utilized and familiarized myself with the radio's student and recording equipment.
  • Answered phone calls and scheduled reservations for guests.
  • Employed vocal and pronunciation techniques for clear, accessible communication.
