Summary

I'm a heating engineer with over 20 years’ experience in the renewables sector, specialising in heat pump systems, solar thermal, PV and biomass. For the past 13 years I have focused on designing, installing, maintaining and repairing air, ground and water source heat pumps in line with MCS standards. I have a strong track record in fault-finding and resolving performance issues, including systems installed by others without prior product training. Skilled at using Heat Engineer software for accurate heat-loss calculations and system design. I am originally plumbing-qualified, with additional electrical training (EAL Level 3), I combine technical versatility with a customer-focused approach. I am keen to expand my skills towards F-Gas certification to support the servicing of legacy installations.

  • Designed, installed, and commissioned renewable heating systems, including air, ground, and water source heat pumps.
  • Delivered servicing and maintenance for a wide range of heat pumps and associated technologies (solar thermal, photovoltaic systems, biomass).
  • Diagnosed and resolved complex faults and performance issues, including systems with no prior product training or incomplete heat-loss calculations,
  • Improved SCOP by balancing heating systems properly, correcting flow rates to the optimum range and making sure the flow rates either side of the buffer are equal to reduce cycling.
  • Replaced heat pump circuit boards, circuit board fuses, motorised valves, pumps, controllers and numerous other heating parts.
  • Worked with leading manufacturers such as Mitsubishi, Samsung, Heliotherm, Viessmann, Sunamp, Soleco, and Kensa.
  • Produced and interpreted technical schematics, adapting manufacturer documentation and creating bespoke diagrams for tailored system designs.
  • Trained junior engineers.
  • Written O&M manuals for clients with bespoke heating systems.
  • Built a strong reputation for customer service, providing clear explanations and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
