Marawan Shaaban

An outgoing and motivated individual with a strong work ethic and leadership skills. Has experience coordinating with other members on projects both as a team member and a leader. Throughout a history of academic excellence, projects have always been completed at the highest possible personal standards.

Public Debating

• Participated as a delegate twice in ISB: Borneo Global Issues Conference (BGIC), a student-led MUN with over 30 local schools participating, and achieved the Best Delegate award both times.

Competitive Swimming

• Achieved a Silver Medal in 50m & 100m Breaststroke in the 2019 National Brunei Swimming Competition.
• Achieved a Gold Medal in 50m Breaststroke & a Silver Medal in 100m Breaststroke in the 2019 ISB Swimming Championships Sprints.
• Represented ISB internationally in the FOBISIA Swimming Championships 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Volunteering Experiences

• Volunteered at La Maison Chance in Vietnam for 10 days to help build a shelter for the less fortunate residents.
• Volunteered in ISB Summer School 2020-2021 as a Teaching assistant to help conduct and lead activities

Personal Academic Achievements

• Achieved an ISB Board of Directors Achievement Award (2017-2019) for obtaining 8As and A*s in the IGCSEs.
• Achieved a Silver Status 2019-2021 ISB Board of Directors Achievement Award for obtaining a 41/45 in the IB Diploma.

• An avid chess player; currently have a rapid ELO rating of 1800 on chess.com

• A former competitive swimmer for a decade; still swim occasionally and follow the international competitive scene

• Played piano for about 4 years; stopped around the Grade 5 qualification.

• Travel whenever possible in vacations; I'm always interested in other cultures & new experiences.
