Summary

I have been passionate about helping people for as long as I can remember. This passion led me to study the sciences in high school and eventually dedicate my career to health and social care. At the age of 16, I gained experience working in a geriatric hospital in Poland during the summer, where I supported elderly patients with various physical and mental health conditions and learned how to deliver holistic care.

I also shadowed nurses during the care planning and delivery process, imagining myself one day being in their position.
During my time in Poland, I spent over five years working as a teacher with teenagers who had ADHD and aggression issues. This experience
provided me with the knowledge and skills needed to plan and deliver high-quality care to individuals with complex needs. I gained valuable
experience dealing with anxious individuals and learned how to recognize, prevent, and manage unforeseen and stressful situations. Being a teacher also helped me become an effective communicator, and I understand that taking a unique approach and maintaining open communication is key to understanding individuals’ needs.
Initially, I planned to become a mental health nurse after spending eight years working as a forensic support worker, NAT, and registered nursing
associate with individuals diagnosed with mental health conditions and learning difficulties. My interest in adult nursing began during my first
placement as a Nursing Associate trainee in a community hospital. There, I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team to plan and deliver care to elderly patients. I learned how to administer medication following the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of practice and monitored patients’ physical health using NEWS2, Food and Fluid charts, and the Bristol Stool Chart.
After registering with the NMC as a Nursing Associate, I continued working in a forensic ward. I consistently sought opportunities to expand my knowledge and improve my skills. I volunteered to assist with the physical health and depo clinic for community patients with mental health diagnoses and received additional training in phlebotomy and ECG. Furthermore, my manager nominated me to become the Physical Health and Medical Devices Lead.
Although I enjoyed my time working in a mental health hospital, I found myself increasingly drawn to adult nursing. This led me to transition to the Trauma Outpatient Department at the John Radcliffe Hospital, where I began my journey in the physical health setting. In the trauma clinic, I now support individuals with all aspects of care and perform a full range of clinical skills. I feel like I am in the right place and thoroughly enjoy my work.
Completing the Nursing Associate apprenticeship gave me the confidence and skills to pursue an Adult Nursing degree at The Open University. My passion for working in trauma and my strong determination to become a nurse were the driving forces behind my decision to undertake further studies and complete the Adult Nursing Degree. The apprenticeship also helped me develop good time management skills. Balancing work with studying for modules and assignments equipped me well to deliver excellent patient care while meeting the academic demands of the curriculum.
The Open University provided me with the opportunity to maintain this balance of working and studying simultaneously.
I am compassionate, empathetic, caring, and well-organized. I have a keen eye for detail and work well under pressure. I am highly motivated and eager to learn new skills.
