Summary

I am a dedicated and passionate Advanced nurse practitioner with over 20 years of nursing experience. Committed to building upon my own learning and development. I am dedicated to providing high quality holistic patient care and believe in building strong nurse-patient relationships based on trust and empathy, which are essential for successful treatment and patient satisfaction. I work well as part of a team and am able to delegate fairly and appropriately promoting a safe comfortable environment for both staff and patients.

I have extensive experience of working within acute medicine which has provided me with the ability to develop my clinical assessment and management skills of patients with a variety of complex medical conditions. Working autonomously to make clinical decisions based on clinical findings and implementing appropriate programmes of care for each individual patient.

I have an interest in patient education enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their care and I have developed patient information leaflets which are currently in use within my area of work. Improving care delivery is important and taking part in quality improvement projects is an integral part of service development, which I enjoy and have introduced new clerking and referral documentation which has improved service delivery.

  • I am responsible for multiple staff members within my team including monthly rotas and overall management of the unit.
  • Working autonomously within my scope of practice, assessing and diagnosing often complex conditions through accurate clinical history taking and physical examination.
  • Demonstrating safe clinical decision making skills through evidence based practice and local health board guidelines.
  • Requesting further investigations including blood tests, radiological investigations, ultrasounds and by analyse of these results utilising all clinical findings to achieve an accurate diagnosis and implement an individual patient treatment plan.
  • I possess complex physical skills and extensive knowledge of venesection for treatment of haemochromatosis, IV cannulation, IV drug administration, blood products, male and female catheterisation, arterial and venous blood gas sampling.
  • I lead in lumbar puncture procedure, providing classroom teaching sessions with formal and informal assessments for junior doctors, Advanced nurse practitioners and Physician associates.
  • Including planning and delivering teaching programmes to multi professional staff during weekly teaching sessions.
  • Being a non medical prescriber enables me to provide holistic care, following the patient through from diagnosis, treatment and discharge, communicating and referring to other departments and specialities within the hospital or community setting when required.
