I started my legal career at Malley & Co Lawyers, working in the Commercial and Property team.
It was a great place to learn the ropes. I got to work closely with the directors and see firsthand what it takes to be a strong, effective solicitor. I was involved in a wide range of legal work, which really helped me build a solid foundation in drafting and reviewing documents as well as client care and teamwork - these skills allowed me to move into more complex legal work at Henderson Reeves.
I worked as a storeman, delivery driver, and trade assistant in the summer of 2020/2021. The role was diverse, and I was responsible for a range of tasks, including managing inventory, coordinating deliveries, and assisting with various trade-related activities. Much of the time, I was entrusted with planning my own days and schedules, which helped me develop strong time management and organisational skills.
During the summer break of 2019/20, I worked at Wests Orchard, where I picked avocados. Northland summers can get quite hot, with temperatures reaching around 30 degrees Celsius. The work was physically demanding but enjoyable, often involving long hours. Much of the harvesting was done using heavy machinery, which required a high level of concentration and careful planning.
