I'm a great team player which has help loads in this job as you have to work with many different groups within the company to complete the bigger picture in recycling battery's into lead ingot.
I started my career in the Military in March 2018.
My first challenge was 6 months of hard physical and mental training in Catterick Garrison, where I did a series of training including exercises in the field, classroom based learning and an arduous physical training programme to test my physical and mental fitness. Here I was transformed from civilian to solider and taught the core values and standards of the British Army.
Upon completion, I had a Pass Out parade and I was awarded Best Physical Fitness award for doing the best in all PT sessions and having the drive to be the best out of 35 others. This shows my grit and determination, as well as my willingness to succeed.
I then went on to join the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh, in Lucknow Barracks, Tidworth.
Since joining, I have been on many training operations and local exercises. I have been training physical and mentally throughout my career.
I have deployed overseas on training exercises and major operations, including Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany and France.
Whilst on these operations, we would put our skills and drills to the test to make sure we were fit for any eventualities.
On these exercises/operations, we would need many skills to aid the battalion in completing at a high standard. I have many traits that helped with this;
In the Royal Welsh, I have been in Charlie Company all my career. I have been given many tasks to complete, particularly in leadership roles. I have been given responsibility as a Private to complete tasks which a higher rank would be given and completed them to a high standard. My Chain of Command have always spoke of me highly and I am well respected throughout the battalion.
I've had many roles which included;
As a driver, my role would be to get my crew to their destination safely whilst choosing the right route. I am also tasked with maintaining the vehicle to its highest standard and making sure they are fighting fit.
As a gunner, my role would be to make sure the gun is maintained to it's highest standard and make sure any faults that are found are rectified.
As a Section 2IC (2nd in Command), my role would be to help my section out and aid anything the Platoon Sergeant has to do. This can include help navigating, route planning, Ammunition and First Aid. This role is normally given to Lance Corporal, but my Chain of Commanded believe I have the qualities and professionalism to conduct these tasks as a Private Soldier.
Whilst serving in the Army I have played many sports, mainly Rugby for the Royal Welsh and Infantry. This has helped me with team work and leadership, which has helped me in my wider Army career. I also played American Football for the Army team which I have thoroughly enjoyed. This sport has taught me more about team work, decision making under pressure and working within a large team. It also demonstrates my willingness and ability to learn new things quickly and with ease, as I received Most Valuable Player after my first game and Offensive Player of the Year after my first season.
Main Achievements
This was a part time job whilst studying for my BTEC Level 1 in Public Services at College. I worked here in my spare time and also on leave periods at the start of my Army Career. I mainly worked night shifts but also would help to run events where possible.
I started out as a glass collector, and then upon completion of a Mixology course delivered by my Employer, I began working behind the bar and serving guests. This helped me gain excellent social skills, particularly communication and organisation which allowed me to keep up in a fast moving and busy environment. I also stayed professional at all times, and remained calm in all demanding situations, which aided in my problem solving abilities.
This job also highlights my time management skills, as I was able to keep up with my College work and pass my course to a high standard whilst also picking up as many shifts as I could.
This was my first job which I joined whilst still at school. I was motivated to earn some money whilst studying in order to gain my own independence as a teenager.
Here, I helped out in the Warehouse and kept the shop floor stocked and tidy to ensure customer satisfaction was as high as possible.
I started developing my time management, organisation and confidence within the workplace which helped me massively throughout my further careers.
