I have experienced 4 years of trade based, hands on work.
I started when I was coming out of high school and going into college at a hot tub company; beginning in sales. I absolutely loved working in the sales side of Bedfordshire Hot tubs, getting to speak to new people everyday, and send customers off happy with their newest purchase. I then got offered to change my work up and begin doing the engineering side of the hot tubs.
This is what triggered my love for trade work and kicked me off into getting my Level 3 Qualification in Electrical Installation.
As a hot tub engineer I would install hot tubs which had a lot of heavy lifting, pulling and pushing, as-well as lots of cable stripping, wiring and organising.
I served 2 years as an engineer at the hot tub company until I was offered a job at an electrical firm. Once I started at the new firm I was set off into London for regular early mornings on new builds, and renovations. This involved lots of hard work, whilst maintaining a strong and organised work ethic to ensure I was never late, nor too tired to get on with the job.
After 6 months at the electrical firm I wanted to move my skills to a more niche industry and this is where I found a new interest in Fire and Security. I started my career at Black and White as an apprentice and within my first year was promoted into a Junior Engineer. This job involved driving a van in London on a very regular basis, and being willing to work late hours whilst maintaining professionality.
I have loved working at Black and White, but I had come to feel the electrical industry wasn't of much interest to me. I want to become more hands on with my job and be able to always have something to increase my skills and be challenged on a regular basis.
I moved into the field of metal fabrication and installation at a company called IBI (Industrial Belting International). I have been here for just over a year now, and as much as I enjoy the early mornings, beating the sun and working on sites, or being surrounded by my friends at work in the unit, having a laugh and getting the jobs done; something just hasn't felt right.
I personally feel, with the experience I have gained throughout the years, from customer service and satisfaction, to planning and quoting. Sales is where I belong, at my first job I was consistently pushed to satisfy customer needs and would do anything in my power to do so. I never missed a target, often long passed targets.
I absolutely love communicating with new people, building relationships for repeat customers, and looking after past customers who need a hand!
I worked here for 3 years and excelled to become a good engineer.
I initially started off as a part time job working in the showroom as a sales executive selling hot tubs, and gaining good customer service skills.
I loved the feeling of customer satisfaction, sending customers away knowing that I had helped them to meet their wants/needs!
After 2 years here, I had finished training in college to become an electrician, and so moved on with my career.
At Traynor and Sons I used what I had learnt in college to progress my career as an electrician.
I worked in domestic and commercial situations. My favourite was commercial as it was starting fresh and really getting hands on with running cables and making off the ends.
I stayed here for 6 months until I wanted to become more niche in the electrical industry and found Black and White Fire and Security LTD
Maintained my own responsibility in the company, for example timekeeping, allocating my own jobs, creating quotes for rectification for clients and completing paperwork to a good standard.
I gained a year of experience operating a van, which included being on-top of personal maintenance such as checking the oil, tyre pressures, treads and fluids on a regular to daily basis.
I worked efficiently and effectively throughout my year at Black and White Fire and Security LTD, and took on knowledge from my mentors as required.
