I am a diligent and committed leader with extensive NHS experience.
In my current post i have gained extensive knowledge of all areas in the maternity unit and Neonatal unit. I have operational experience of running a maternity unit to a very high standard having gained "Good " rating in a CQC inspection i am committed to patient safety and improving outcomes within maternity services. I have experience of working with the trust executive and both present and write board papers. I am currently a specialist adviser for Maternity with the care quality commission which i enjoy very much. I am also a Director of a Multi academy trust ( Education) and have been for the past twelve years.
The primary aim the Head of midwifery role is to manage the Midwifery and Neonatal teams ,to ensure that the maternity care delivered to women and babies is of the highest standards of quality and safety and is centered on and delivered according to the needs of women and babies.
To work with the senior team and within the Women and Children’s Clinical Group to provide operational and strategic direction.
The Head of Midwifery is a pivotal member of the Group Quadrumvirate providing assurance and promoting excellence in patient experience across the Maternity and neonatal services, being the lead for further development of the Midwifery and NNU Strategy, taking responsibility for implementing Trust wide objectives in all areas within the Directorate in line with the Trust’s key operational priorities.
The Head of Midwifery provides strong leadership which engages staff, maintains patient and customer focus, drives change and high performance and demonstrates and develops own personal qualities as a leader. The Head of Midwifery is responsible for effectively managing the associated financial resources, ensuring the financial stability is achieved . The necessary knowledge and business skills to plan, implement and evaluate service delivery plans is also required .
Band 8C
As outpatient Matron i was responsible for all outpatient areas such as Fetal medicine , Antenatal day assessment unit ,Antenatal clinic , Antenatal screening and Community Midwifery.
To provide direct clinical care to patients as required.
Act as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership/staff management and demonstration of competent / accountable clinical practice for designated area.
Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary practice, exploring new ideas and encouraging and ensuring the introduction of evidence based change in practice.
Provide clinical advice and expertise to ensure that best practice is promoted and delivered to reduce risks to patients. Incorporate relevant legislation and national and local guidance into clinical guidance and practice.
Play a lead role in maintaining patient flow through the service, minimising bottlenecks within the service and ensuring teams have proactive approach towards this.
To be responsible for ensuring that patients follow agreed pathways of care and are supported towards safe, effective and timely discharge/transfer.
Act as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership for relevant clinical areas and demonstration of competent and accountable clinical practice.
Negotiate and adapt patient care to provide solutions to complex and unusual problems,

Band 8A
As matron for community midwifery i oversaw three site , Heartlands Hospital, Good hope Hospital and Solihull hospital. Providing strong leadership and professional advise and support to both community midwives and team leaders. I held financial accountability for the community budget which i kept within the financial envelope . As a matron i would participate in all HR processes including disciplinary panels, writing management cases and sickness reviews .

Within this role i was also the matron for the solihull birth unit, responsible for low risk birth on the unit. Whilst i was matron i implemented continuity of care where the birth unit midwives would care for women from booking to birth. Ensuring high quality care and strandards were upheld.
Data would be required on a monthly basis to be presented to the head of midwifery on birth , transfer rates , water births and and tears. All aspects the matron handbook including Infection control etc were also adhered too.
Band 8A
in 2000 i qualified as a B5 midwife and went onto complete my rotation at Birmingham women's hospital. Rotation began on Delivery suite , Antenatal ward , Postnatal ward and community midwifery. After a year i gained my Band 6 staff midwife post.
On gaining my Band 6 i went to out to a community midwifery post . I held a case load of around 160 women with varying complexities of high risk but also low risk. As part of the post regular shifts were undertaken on the birth unit at Birmingham women's hospital, sometimes caring for women whom were on my case load. .
As a Band 6 community midwife i would provide all aspects of care i would refer on to specialist services if needs be. I saw all my ladies and families postnatally .
Whilst in this post i attended numerous home births and provided a twenty four on call several times a month. I became the local coordinating midwife research for the birth place study
