  • Commencing as a trainee production operative in 1993 and quickly progressing to become a skilled steering column assembler, I have acquired many and varied skills over the years including robot welding, injection molding, grade 1 quality and completion of Change Agent Training Course. The work required a flexible and disciplined approach, plus an awareness of the individual’s role within a team. Communication and interpersonal skills are therefore as important as manual ability, and being part of a successful, friendly and well-motivated team in itself imparts a tremendous sense of achievement. I would have been more than happy to continue my employment within NSK but unfortunately due to economic circumstances the steering column division was forced to close down.

  • My career with Rumbelows began as a part-time sales assistant, but within six months, by building on my previous experience with SKY/BSB my successful sales record was rewarded by being offered a full time position. Maintaining a consistently high level of sales (I was in the top 10 sellers for the retail group for three consecutive years winning bronze, silver and gold awards) I was promoted 18 months later to assistant manageress in the Peterlee store. I was then co-opted as a holiday relief manager for other branches in the region. My career with Rumbelows ended when the entire group closed down it’s operation.

  • Recruited as a sales canvasser and part of a large team, the task was to sell the newly introduced satellite broadcasting system throughout the North east. Working mainly in the Sunderland and Wearside area, cold calling on a door to door basis, this job demanded determination and tenacity as well as excellent sales technique. Although new to sales in any form, I found I had a natural ability at selling and over the next twelve months of the contract I became top sales achiever in the whole of the UK. The contract was short term and at the end of twelve months the team was disbanded.
