Louis de Rohan

My passion for understanding the sciences led me to pursue a rigorous academic path in Astrophysics at the University of Edinburgh, from which I recently graduated with a 2:2. While the course presented significant academic challenges, it deepened my analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and affirmed my interest in tackling complex and interdisciplinary issues.

My academic foundations were built on strong A-level results: A*s in Mathematics and History, and an A in Physics. These achievements initially supported my transition into higher education and set the stage for a demanding but rewarding university experience.

Outside the academic environment, I’ve consistently sought opportunities to grow personally and professionally. During my gap year, I worked on a farm, often for 19 to 20 hours a day. This intense physical work developed in me a strong work ethic, discipline, and the ability to remain focused under pressure.

In addition, I shadowed professionals at the Charles Stanley Group, gaining valuable insight into financial services and the importance of interdisciplinary awareness. I was also introduced to the insurance market through the Hampden Group, which broadened my understanding of risk, strategy, and business dynamics.

I’ve had the opportunity to travel, including spending two months in Vienna in summer 2022 to study German—an experience that enhanced both my communication skills and cultural awareness.

At university, I was elected treasurer of a large student society, where I managed budgets, organised events, and collaborated with a diverse team—developing practical leadership and organisational skills that I’m eager to carry into the workplace.

My varied experiences—academic, physical, and professional—have shaped me into a resilient and adaptable individual. I approach challenges with persistence, a willingness to learn, and a mindset shaped by both scientific discipline and real-world exposure. As I take my next steps post-graduation, I am motivated to apply my skills and experiences in a meaningful and dynamic professional setting.
