Working at Novitas has been an invaluable opportunity for learning and growth. Throughout my time here, I’ve developed broad range of skills and successfully adapted to the dynamics of the corporate environment. Operating within a company in the process of winding down has presented unique challenges and opportunities, allowing me to expand my knowledge and skillset across various scenarios.
This role has strengthened my expertise in financial operations and introduced me to FP&A, where I’ve proactively taken on additional responsibilities from the FP&A Analyst to deepen my understanding. I’ve consistently sought out opportunities to grow within my role, demonstrating initiative and a commitment to continuous development.
Alongside technical growth, I’ve built strong relationships with colleagues across the business, recognising that a collaborative and supportive work culture is essential to both personal satisfaction and team success.
Core Responsibilities:
Shortly after joining Novitas, our team of four was reduced to just myself and my manager. This sudden change meant I had to take on additional responsibilities without the support of a more experienced peer. With tighter deadlines and a heavier workload, I quickly learned to manage my time effectively, prioritising tasks and organising my day with precision. Despite my best efforts, there were occasions when meeting deadlines wasn’t possible. In these instances, I communicated proactively with stakeholders to manage expectations and minimise any impact. This challenging period significantly strengthened my ability to work independently and confidently under pressure, while also enhancing my stakeholder management skills.
Working in a company that was winding down with limited new business, I occasionally had spare capacity. I used this time to focus on improving efficiencies in repetitive tasks. The systems at Novitas were underdeveloped, requiring manual calculations for many reports. One report in particular took around 2–3 hours to prepare. I took the initiative to build an Alteryx workflow that automated this process, reducing preparation time to just a few seconds. This not only streamlined reporting but also enabled me to deliver insights quickly and reliably, even under tight deadlines.
During my time at Novitas, I’ve had the opportunity to train my new manager and two new colleagues. This experience exposed me to a variety of approaches to tasks and training styles, broadening my perspective and adaptability. I place a strong emphasis on building collaborative relationships within the team, fostering an environment where open communication and constructive challenge are encouraged. This helps ensure that everyone feels confident contributing ideas and continuously improving how we work together.
