As a member of staff at the pavilion, I am responsible for a myriad of things including: cleaning the function rooms and bars in preparation for events, restocking the bars and keeping the fridges organised, supporting customers with their needs and questions, even taking inventory or making physical copies of our electronic menus. I have become proficient with the till.
Working behind a bar has helped to increase my confidence when speaking to other people and allowed me to find the balance between calm professionalism and accommodating friendliness. I was encouraged to take control of my bar quite fast upon being hired and so had to adapt quickly to the role; a skill which is vital in that fast changing environment as there are often multiple tasks that need attention behind the bar all whilst providing my best attention to customers.
I really enjoy working face to face with customers as, whilst talking with them, I practise staying articulate and calm even if I become flustered by their complaint or worry. It also allows me, sometimes, to talk to new people and I love to hear about their experiences. The satisfaction of helping a customer has quickly become one of my favourite feelings on shift.
Since spring/summer of 2024, I've been occasionally asked to look after three children aged ranging 5-11. It was a new and intimidating responsibility but one I enjoy and take incredibly seriously as it is always very honouring to be asked back.
I love to read and play board/card games with the children, which they seem to prefer to watching a film as I'm often there to put them to bed and it's far more soothing.
As a competitive dancer of at least a decade, I've learnt many things including team work, resilience, and, if nothing else, I can keep a smile on during stressful or undesirable situations It's important, as part of a team, to be on time and engaged as it not only benefits me but makes the sessions more productive for everybody else I love working as part of a team, the support I am given and can give is unmatched and infinitely helpful, but I also enjoy individual tasks as I feel more connected to them That, I think, is the joy of being in a team as it often acts as a support system for your own personal growth; providing motivation and help as you adapt to what is necessary at the time, and being a consequence of sorts if you don't put enough effort into your responsibilities
Thanks to my years in a team, I've grown to appreciate this system and feel as though I can work equally as well in a group as I can individually because I know what I exceed at and what I may need advice for
Also, being a reader from a young age, I've been told that I can speak and phrase writing clearly and eloquently I believe it's very important to be articulate and have an expansive vocabulary which I try to grow and use as much as I can Relating to this, I've always found language very interesting and currently take Spanish at A-level Learning a foreign language is not only something I truly enjoy but helps my ability to learn from and speak with other people - even in English Spanish also helps me to better understand English as the languages are related
I like to be on time and make a point to be punctual to my job(s) and other commitments where it is unfair if I am late My knowledge of customer service, specifically complaints, was expanded during my work experience week with the Bank of Ireland where I learnt to remain patient in a professional setting and try to understand the customer's concerns as I figure out how best to compensate and reassure them
Another important experience of mine, and one I can finally appreciate, is my DofE bronze and silver I volunteered with the Rainbows girl guiding group for the silver's obligatory 6 months where I often handled the games or individual activities for the scouts and came to understand what it's like to work in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment Whilst on the actual expeditions, I learnt a very important lesson in morale and positivity, no matter the conditions I believe I gained the ability to encourage and re-invigorate my teammates on these trips and this is a skill I believe to be invaluable in a working environment that includes customer service
