I managed a successful store and team at pure oils in new gate mall, primarily dealing with sales and customers. I also tracked inventory and kept areas stocked and ordered or made product as it was needed or before running out of supplies.
I processed loans for customers on anything of value by carefully looking at their goods and giving them a fair loan amount. I also had to maintain a certain sales standard and give amazing customer care and service & experience.
Throughout my career at Kay Jewlers, I was fortunate enough to have access to learning several new skills. This was my first formal job, the first opportunity and ability to start figuring out what or who I wanted to be.
I am a DACA recipient now although before I was an undocumented immigrant brought here by my single mother who was in fear of her life do to mexicos extreme violence at that time. I did most of my education there and some here, my mother had to work with counselors to help me gain credits so I wouldn't fall behind too far. Becoming something here in America was always my dream, so I worked hard to catch up and graduate through a Spanish to English program and even though I didn't get to walk, I can still say that I made it. I made it here, I made it through adversity, rasism, poverty and lack of resources and support . Through my families fire that ultimately changed the direction and outcomes of our lives and my mothers complications after giving birth that would ultimately make me my little sisters surrogate mother for the next year and a half. The biggest lesson school taught me, is that life is all about perspective and your ability and determination to overcome obstacles and grow in wisdom and experience, your ability to make something out of nothing by adapting and realizing that there is always a silver lining , no matter how dark it feels or looks; this is where we find true strengh.
