Summary

I am currently working towards level 3 in mental health and counselling and extremely keen to continue with my professional development. I have previously used IT skills to navigate video call software especially working in education during lockdown. Maintaining accurate records for progression paths was one of my responsibilities as a senior Teaching Assistant. I am extremely familiar with Microsoft office especially Word and PowerPoint, Spreadsheets aren't my strongest point but I am willing to learn as I go. I have continued to learn whilst being employed throughout my working life, I love learning new things and will continue to do so.

  • Knowledge/Understanding - this has been an ongoing process in my life and career. Having worked as a Teaching Assistant for over 20 years I have gained a good understanding of a multitude of mental health conditions. I have planned, delivered and evaluated different interventions for pupils with complex needs including, self-harm, eating problems, anxiety, depression and anger. Within the team I worked with, my specialism was working with ASD students, providing ideas and advice for individual pupils. I understand that every pupil had individual needs and provided interventions based on specific needs. Colleagues within the teaching staff would come to me for advice on specific pupils and how to support them in the best way. I would have around 12 specific pupils that I would assist daily and be a key worker for. This included keeping in contact with parents/carers, giving them advice and listening to any worries they had. This was especially true over lockdown where parent's anxieties and worries were worsened by the situation. I also ran decompression interventions for pupils who found managing their emotions difficult throughout the day. Every year, training would be provided to gain awareness and understanding of AJEDI, This included talks from Police Officers and online training which was very eye opening and beneficial. Planning, delivering and evaluating interventions was a really enjoyable part of my job. Interventions such as sleeping, anger, making friends, puberty, anxiety and dealing with sensory overload were carried out and feedback to parents. Advice was also given on how to move forward when dealing with outside agencies such as CAHMS and speech and language therapists. Working with these services also, gave me a better understanding of processes within an educational setting. Working with young people and their families has been part of my life for so long. My passion for this has been ongoing as
