Director of PE and Sport

Lees Brook Community School
Derby
09.2001 - 08.2018
  • I began my teaching career at Lees Brook teaching KS 3 and 4 PE. Groups were mixed sex and ability, and activities taught were broad and balanced. I was also a vertical form tutor for several years before the school moved to a single year group.
  • Within the role of Director of PE and Sport I led a PE team comprising of six full time and two part time staff. I regularly coordinated department meetings and CPD sessions. I use a variety of data to track, monitor and evaluate teaching and progress of all students and target groups within PE. There are several strategies that I have used to help improve and develop students' progress at all key stages; mentoring, ‘give it a go', standardisation, study support sessions, inspirational visits and speakers. I coordinated and organised GCSE PE paperwork and moderation process.
  • I organised extra-curricular timetable each half term with a variety of activities on offer for all students. I made a significant impact on the provision of extra-curricular activities being responsible for teams in athletics, cross country, swimming, trampolining, and netball. Over the years, many sports hall athletics teams have been successful in Derbyshire schools' sports hall competition at city and county level.
