I began working at Legacy Leisure as a Cafe assistant in 2014. This was a customer focused role involving front of house duties as well as cooking, cleaning and the general day to day running of a busy cafe. Legacy Leisure is a community facility which gave me the opportunity to communicate with clients from a variety of backgrounds. I enjoyed getting to know the regular customers and developing my catering skills in the cafe.
During this time I also trained for my Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification. In my role as cover Gym Staff I am responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the gym floor and fitness equipment as well as instructing members on the correct use of weight resistance and cardio vascular equipment. I have worked with clients to help increase their motivation and work towards their personal goals. In this role I have also worked closely with GP referral and stroke and cardiac clients assisting them with their programmes and providing motivation and encouragement.
I have covered classes at the centre using a mixture of traditional body weight exercises and and yoga based movements. I have received great written feedback from centre members who have enjoyed exercising in a different way to their normal routine and have been surprised by the challenge of the slower paced style class I deliver.
Alongside the Gym and Class cover I also work on Reception one morning a week where I strive to work in a team setting dealing with customer queries and bookings and being the first point of call for those entering the centre.
I am currently working towards my Level 3 with the hope to be qualified by the summer. Health and Fitness is important to me and I enjoy working in an area where I can help encourage other people to develop their health and fitness and meet their goals. I take pride on creating strong, trusting relationships and feel it is really important to connect with a client and understand their challenges and goals.
After training for my Level 2 I also completed a 100 hour course to coach BoxingYoga. This is a yoga based training system that was devised in Total Boxer Gym in London, initially designed for boxers. The focus is on core work and strength and conditioning and appeals to those who find it hard to engage with traditional yoga.
I have been running this class since I qualified in January 2017. This has enabled me to get to know my regular clients and deliver my sessions to meet the needs of the class. I have a group of clients who regularly attend which inspires me to try and bring something new to each session. Running my own class has developed my confidence and enabled me to cover classes and develop my creativity in planning group fitness classes. I have also enjoyed advertising and promoting my class.
