I am a secondary Maths specialist with QTS status and 17 years of teaching experience
After teaching Maths and science from 2006, I completed a Maths Development Programme for Teachers (MDPT) course at Edge HILL University in 2012 and achieved a PG Cert. in Maths Education. I have been teaching just Maths ever since in 3 different High Schools.
I have experience teaching across year groups 7 to 11 and across all abilities, including both higher and foundation GCSE classes.
i also have experience of teaching at KS2 as in a previous school, I spent 2 mornings a week in feeder primary schools supporting and teaching in year 6 Maths lessons. i wrote the resources for those sessions.
I have played a big part in rewriting schemes of work both at KS3 and KS4 in recent years and as a result have helped to share good practice. Whilst rewriting schemes of work, I have gained an understanding of the NCETM's Teaching for Mastery Approach and including the 5 Big Ideas into the series of lessons. Its main focus is helping to teach students how to learn and retain information.
I have the ability to work hard, prioritise appropriately and maintain good humour when things don’t always go to plan. In my previous roles, team work has obviously been essential and I have built excellent working and collaborative relationships with colleagues both within the Maths department and in other departments as well as those in our feeder primary schools.
I am confident and comfortable using different platforms and software. I currently private tutor students online and in school use Google Workspace. I have. used Kahoot and Socrative quiz software, and Desmos and GeoGebra in my teaching.
For 11 years prior to my becoming a teacher, I worked in the Animal Nutrition and Health industry. A good many of these years were spent at management level and in a training capacity which I feel have given me a great many qualities that really help in my role as a teacher. I am well motivated, have a real ability to organise and can meet deadlines. I am able to work under my own initiative but I am also a good team player too. I have great interpersonal skills and can work well with people on all levels.
