The primary responsibility of the Trauma Resus Practitioner is to provide assistance in the management of any patient, adult or paediatric, who presents to the UHCW ED resus area having been involved in a major trauma event. The Trauma Resus Practitioner will be competent in the initial management of the patient with a compromised airway, and then assist the Anaesthetist / Intensivist in securing an airway, maintaining ventilation and transfer to a definitive place of care.
I worked as an Anaesthetic ODP at UHCW NHS Trust on permanent nightshifts covering Emergency theatres & Obstetrics which also included outreach areas such as; Cath Lab, IR and Paediatric HDU. I was exposed to a wide range of specialiities such as T&O, Vascular, Neuro, General, Urology, Cardiothoracic, ENT and many more. I was able to deliver high-quality anaesthetic support, whilst ensuring optimal patient safety and efficient care amidst high-pressure scenarios.
During my time at George Eliot NHS Trust i worked as an ODP covering Anaesthetics & Recovery in Emergency and Elective theatres. I worked in a wide range of specialities such as General, T&O, Obstetrics, Urology, ENT and Breast surgery. I was also exposed to attending emergencies within the hospital such as cardiac arrests and was able to transfer patients in an emergency situation to external hospitals. These first two years enabled me to gain the key fundamentals as an ODP and i was able to gain a wider knowledge of perioperative care which allowed me to further my career as an anaesthetic practitioner.
