Liam Smalley

• Started my career as an apprentice at 16 years old and quickly adapted into my working environment, which was to build fast paced production line machinery. working on all variations of machinery which included full wall paper production lines, and automotive water cooling and oil cooling radiator lines. Picking up the skills to be able to have the knowledge and trust to install and test new machinery. Maintain and upgrade our existing machinery all over the world travelling as far as China, in some cases travelling internationally alone to represent the company and deal with breakdowns. To then having the experience and confidence to lead installations and occasionally help plan new builds working with project managers and the design team to meet tight, strict deadlines and improve current assembly and installation processes. Working with customers to ensure their requirements are met, whilst professionally representing the company name at all times. Even in tough situations where things don't always go to plan and you have to think on your feet.

• I then moved into maintenance and soon found myself at home adapting into my new work environment. Bringing my engineering and communication skills to become a key member of the team to build firm relationships and gain trust whilst continuously learning about how the company/factory runs on a day to day basis.

• The opportunity arose for a promotion which I was successful in securing, which I was more than happy about because I always aimed to try and climb the ladder and get into a more managerial role. I soon found myself at home with my new team while working closely alongside my Team leader and being in charge when they are not present. Gaining their trust and respect having me in this position and being somebody they can rely on. Enjoying the responsibility and the challenges that follow. Making sure the day to days are met whilst reacting to issues and other projects put into our direction, managing time and keeping downtime to a minimum. I've been involved with successful projects and look forward to getting my teeth stuck into more in the future.

I was then successful and secured another opportunity for the role of Engineering Development Team Manager. In this role i am now planning, managing and performing all of the PPM schedules and daily tasks, to ensure our automation equipment, goods lifting equipment, fire pumps and and generator systems are always in top working order. Working alongside the control room to ensure the maintenance is planned and carried out to not occur any unnecessary downtime on the automation. Within this role i supervise the engineers on site who are looking after the automation when they require it, whilst giving training and support to our apprentices and assistant engineers. i'm always in close communication with the engineering manager and team leader to ensure i am up to date with business needs/changes and be in communication to guide contractors who are coming to site and be of assistance when necessary.
