Engineering Placement Student
Jans Group (blueMac, Composites and ETRUX)
Antrim
10.2023 - 08.2024
My undergraduate engineering placement in Northern Ireland, started with designing recycling plants and ancillary devices for blueMac, where I developed my CAD skills learning Creo and implemented those skills in designing plants, fixing snags and creating sales drawings using the rendering ability within Creo
Then I moved over to the Composite and ETRUX divisions within Jans, where I improved further my abilities with CAD developing flanges for the composite parts and I would develop parts and vehicle conversion schematics for the ETRUX
This placement was insightful as I was placed for 3 months working for blueMac, then 8 months for Composites and ETRUX
This wide view of different divisions showed me multiple sides to engineering and employment within the engineering world, working in engineering teams on large projects, for example developing a GRP high pressure vessel intended as an oxygen rich therapy tank.
Shop floor assistant and step up shift leader
Tesco PLC
Working at Tesco, which has given me insight into working for a large company and has taught me about the structure that they reform to
By which they have company wide training courses and specific and outlined standards of working that all the employers adhere to
The training course taught me more about the field I was working in, and I took the information on board
For instance I was trained ahead of my role, in case a Tesco floor manager wasn’t around so that I could fill in for them in case of their absence.
Bartender
The Dogg in Peover
Worked in a restaurant/bar, The Dogg in Peover, as an assistant to the bar manager, where I would oversee and manage the bar work and the employees
This taught me invaluable lessons in leadership and working with others.
Bartender
The Dun Cow
I started employment when I worked as waiter/KP in a pub, the Dun Cow, which taught the basics about employment, I am a fast learner as I was first appointed as a Kitchen Port but was soon promoted to a waiter.
