Leo Puffett

As an Apprentice I have learnt many skills during my time at Ontic. I have had the chance to work in many different departments and environments which has helped me to develop a wide understanding of the company, its structure, products and its processes.

I have been lucky enough to get involved in many different projects for example I took the lead of Organising the Shop floor tooling and relocating it to a more efficient and straightforward machine. Using knowledge gained from my studies from my HND at GET I have used lean manufacturing principles and put the into practice at work.

In my current rotation I am working alongside the Production Engineering team. As part of this role I have om some of the responsibility of looking after some of the products that are manufactured. In particular I have spent a lot of time with the Servo 2 line where I have worked alongside the Engineer to try and resolve some of the reworks and try and investigate the reason as to why it failed.

As part of my daily standard work I use ERP systems such as Syteline 10 and MES. My rotation around the Company has helped me to get a good understanding of the systems and the wide capability's they have.

I have developed skills in CAD software's which has allowed me to assist in projects. For example I have used CAD to help Arrange the shop floor in a way that best suited the Company at that time. It has helped me to design tools that have helped make manufacturing more efficient.
