Unilin Insulation is a manufacturer of PIR and Phenolic, across UK, Ireland and Mainland Europe. I have full P&L responsibility for the UK business, which has a turnover of £115m (approximately 40% of Group) via two UK production facilities and imported material from Ireland.

  • Lead a sales and specification team of 4 direct reports and 20 indirect reports, across Merchants, Distribution, Roofing and OEMs
  • Increase volume to regain market leader position, whilst maintaining margin by broadening product offering and routes to market
  • Introduce a project tracking system to strengthen specifications through the supply chain
  • Identify new product applications and M&A opportunities
  • Present to UK & Ireland MD on a monthly basis and Unilin Group CEO every quarter

  • Leading market sector teams within Supply Chains / Frameworks, Building Envelope, Residential, National Accounts, Builders Merchants, Retrofit, Drywall & Interiors, Speedline, Ocula (partitioning) and SIG360 (technical support)
  • Gain and maintain regional market knowledge of existing and potential customers and set targets for new and existing business, working closely with manufacturers and using tools, such as Barbour ABI and Salesforce CRM
  • Implement reporting and development meetings on a frequent basis, holding personal development discussions to coach and develop the team.
  • Create and conduct area wide marketing activities to develop the business and strengthen customer relations coordinated through the Category and Marketing teams.

  • Unilin: Restructure the Sales & Specification team, not only from a cost perspective in a hugely difficult market (annualised savings of £250k) but to prioritise margin opportunities within Distribution & Roofing.


  • Unilin: Regain our position as market leader within the PIR market. Q1 2025 (prior to me joining) market share 21% / Q3 2025 market share 27%


  • Unilin: Identify new market sector opportunity within ducting and new product opportunities for 0.019 Phenolic (new business already pre-ordered for 2026 of £1.2m / GM 30%)


  • SIG: Introduce a new Building Envelope team, to identity new and existing opportunities to increase basket mix and sales value (2023 sales £28m / ROS 9.7%)


  • SIG: Combine the National & Regional Residential Teams into one team, broadening their remit to include Social Housing Framework Agreements, Student Accomodation, Retirement Living (2023 Direct sales £62m / ROS 8.9% / Indirect sales £129m / ROS 5.4%)


  • SIG: Move the Retrofit team from SIG Roofing into SIG Distribution, to add value to our Refurb & Remediation offering to Local Authorities / Housing Associations. (2023 sales £14m / 7.8%) This move will increase sales into Retrofit by circa 18% (£17m at an improved ROS)


  • BNT Insulation: Help start a new company from zero to £15m (ROS 10%) within 7 years

Professional Outlook

I believe the construction industry will see more changes within the next 5 years than I have witnessed in the previous 30 years. These changes will partly be driven by the changes the Building Safety Act / Golden Thread / CCPI will bring, but also by Sustainability requirements, Non-Combustibility demands and Social Value measurements. 


The need to demonstrate we are all 'responsible actors' within the Supply Chain will fundamentally change our role and potentially increase our liability. As well as understanding the demands of an immediately challenging market, we have to work towards future-proofing our businesses.
