Work history

Mechanical/Research and Development Technician

Whittaker Engineering
Stonehaven
2022.12 - Current
  • Carried out extensive assembly, fault diagnosis and repair on a wide variety of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems as well as subsea equipment and tooling.
  • Completed pressure testing procedures on equipment to verify integrity prior to deployment to the field. This included gas, hydrostatic and function testing of specific systems as required.
  • Fabricated and fitted small bore tubing assemblies to subsea components which included bending, cutting, routing and testing.
  • Contributed to the design, development, and optimisation of a patented in-house Stirling‑cycle heat pump prototype within an R&D environment.
  • Involved in all stages of the project, from initial design, assembly, through to extensive performance testing and diagnostics.
  • Carried out wiring of sensors and instrumentation to the prototype whilst also creating parts of the control and data logging system.
  • Helped to identify issues throughout the design and build process and fed this information back to the engineering team to support ongoing developments towards the functional prototype.
  • Conducted performance testing and monitoring, observing thermal outputs, pressure cycles and system behaviour.
  • Ensured all work carried out in the mechanical and R&D department was completed safely and to a high standard, following correct procedures and completing relevant documentation as required.

Apprentice Mechanical Fitter

Whittaker Engineering
Stonehaven
2018.07 - 2022.12
  • Completed a comprehensive apprenticeship focused on mechanical fitting, manufacturing processes, and maintenance practices across a range of industrial equipment.
  • Gained broad hands‑on experience with mechanical systems, tooling, and subsea equipment, developing a strong understanding of component function, assembly, and system operation.
  • Learned and applied effective fault‑finding and problem‑solving techniques, supporting the diagnosis and repair of mechanical issues in real working environments.
  • Developed practical skills in machining, fitting, inspection, and safe workshop practices while working alongside experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Built a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, preparing for progression into more advanced technical roles.
  • Achieved safe work practices by adhering to health and safety regulations.
