Whilst contracting with Eurotech Technical Services I was required to do extensive travelling to work on oil and gas ships/platforms. This meant travelling to countries in Africa, south America, Europe and also North America. The nature of the work and environment also meant working to the highest standard and also safe as possible. My duties included;

• Installation on containment depending on plans.
• Running of braided cable.
• Installations of framework for new equipment.
• Supervising jobs which would involve organising permits to work and toolbox talks.
• EX inspections of equipment in explosive areas. This would also mean updating the EX register.

While contracting for Sisk Electrical I was involved with the electrical installation on thew new HVDC switching station located in Hunterston. This was a new station owned and operated by Scottish power. My duties included;

• Installing containment.
• Running of SWA and single core cables.
• Glanding and termination of cabling into equipment.
• All work done using in date and correct drawings to a safe standard.

I began contracting when leaving BAE systems, at which point I began working with Grants of Dufftown. The work involved both working on oil and gas skids, and also working in whisky distilleries around Scotland. As on November 2024 I worked with Grants of Dufftown on a whisky distillery located in Japan for five months. The tasks I was involved included;

• Installed containment for new cabling and also install of new equipment. ie panels, pressure transmitters, level sensors etc.
• The running of all new cabling to either new or existing systems.
• The glanding/terminating of cabling into panels and equipment.
• This was then tested to ensure all systems were safe before energising.
• All tasks were performed to a high standard, while also adhering to all rule set in place by the company.

Serving my apprenticeship within BAE systems I qualified as an electrical maintenance engineer. The responsibilities that I had during my time working within the company included;

• Replaced defective components promptly, minimising business disruptions.
• Performed preventative maintenance tasks to reduce potential future issues.
• Improved safety standards by routinely inspecting electrical systems.
• Diagnosed malfunctions to restore system functionality swiftly.
• Carried out testing of electrical systems for optimal performance
• Installed and wired electrical hardware, including transformers, junction boxes, service panels, electrical boxes, switches and circuit breakers.
