In this role I served my apprenticeship, and became a fully qualified multi-skilled
maintenance technician. Throughout my career here I have gained
professionalism, technical abilities, organisational skills, leadership qualities, plant
experience, an understanding of production requirements and a vision for operational
improvements. I currently work a 3 team rotation where 24/7 technical cover must be met. Some of my daily
duties include:
Liaising with production and fellow maintenance staff and managers in order to
effectively manage and carry out maintenance requirements without impacting on
production needs.
Carry out job reports, allowing for future trends in machine performance to be
analysed when required, or to improve repair efficiencies by keeping a record of
problems and solutions.
Fault finding and repair work on technical equipment using a wealth of problem
solving skills, mechanical and electrical drawing interpretation, and drawing on
experience; minimising downtime on all machinery.
Emergency repairs, including machining and manufacturing parts where
replacements could not be sourced due to cost or availability. Overhauling major mechanical parts and equipment, such as MTS crush roller assemblies, clutches,
pumps, motors and rollers with a zero-tolerance accuracy.
Carrying out electrical installations and servicing/ checks on all electrical equipment
throughout the plant.
Reading and analysing data from PLC’s, and continually using them to improve
automation and equipment performance.
Looking for opportunities for innovation within the factory, allowing me to get
heavily involved in improvement projects.
Following strict health and safety policies in all aspects of the job, including using
permits to work, risk assessments and COSHH statements.
