ICA Engineer (Instrumentation, Control and Automation) Engineer

  • Responsible for the repair, maintenance, commissioning and modification of all the PLC’s, HMI’s, SCADA systems, Industrial Control Networks and associated instrumentation on all Water and Wastewater Assets with the South OT Support Team.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley SLC 500 PLC’S (501, 502,503,504 and 505’s), Panel-view LOI’s and RSView 32 SCADA Systems. I also have great experience with Siemens S5, S7 300, S7 200, S7 1200 and S7 1500 PLC’s along with a wide range of Siemens HMI’s and advanced Server/Client SCADA Systems.
  • Knowledge of Intelligent Motor Controllers such as Siemens Simocode Units and Siemens G120 Inverter Drives that require software configuration.
  • Experience using the following Automation Software: RS Logix 5, RS Logix 500, RS Linx, Panel Builder, TIA Portal, Siemens Step 7, Step 5, WinCC Flexible 2008, Protool, WinCC Explorer Version 6.2/7, Gem 80 PLC AGP and some older legacy PLC Software such as DOX 5/10 and Medoc.
  • Extensive knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Profibus DP/PA, Modbus, RS232, RS485 DH+ and DH485.
  • Extensive and complex Fault finding and repair of a wide variety of process control automation including PLC/SCADA systems and Industrial Control and Communication Networks such as Profibus, Ethernet and Fibre Optic).
  • Understanding of Windows based systems, Virtual machines and Server/Client functionality in ICS.
  • I frequently work in a high pressure environment where there is often time restraints on repairing equipment to get a plant back online. Prioritization of work is a key element of my job.
  • On Site Commissioning of new industrial control systems, including input into the design of a new control system or modification of existing systems.
  • On site PLC, SCADA and HMI software modifications to enhance plant processes and efficiency.
  • Work alongside other departments i.e. ADT to identify operational improvements and cost savings.
  • Ensure Operational Change Management (OCM) Forms are completed by the relevant people when modifications are carried out.
  • Updating site FDS, O&M's and Network Architecture drawings when changes are made.
  • Purchasing and managing site critical spares.
  • Managing contractors, reviewing Method Statements and Risk Assessments and issuing site Control and Automation permit to works through the work authorization procedure.
  • Input into major capital work regarding plant upgrades and integration into existing site automation network and equipment.
  • Controlling and managing controlled versions of PLC and SCADA software, ensuring they are safely backed up and Uploaded to the central software repository (MARVIN).
  • Participation in out of hour’s standby rota covering all Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Liverpool and the Wirral. This is for any ICS failure across all the Water and Wastewater sites.
  • Working as a team to ensure the best Service to operational colleagues and reduce plant downtime.
  • Negotiating and dealing with suppliers for replacement and repair of parts. Raising purchase requisitions and approval of orders.
  • Updating asset records when equipment has been replaced, repaired or modified (ARDR).
  • Trained multiple junior engineers/apprentices and provided mentorship, enhancing their skill set and knowledge base. In Both Control and Automation and Electrical/Instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of NIS compliance and Cyber Security on Industrial Control Systems.
  • Maintain security standards by virus scanning removable media and only using encrypted devices.
  • Ensure field PG's are up-to date with the appropriate Windows updates.
  • Ensure all contractors have the correct Cyber Security Passport and CA permits in place.
  • Optimised manufacturing processes, resulting in increased efficiency.

Electrical/Instrumentation Multi Skilled Field Service Engineer

  • Completed a modern apprenticeship program and qualified as an Electrical Field Service Engineer responsible for electrical plant maintenance, repair and commissioning on Water Treatment Works, Pumping Stations and Service Reservoirs throughout the North West.
  • Participated in a 24/7 on-call support rota.
  • Troubleshot complex technical issues to enhance equipment functionality.
  • This involved the repair, replacement and planned maintenance of centrifugal pumps. Submersible pumps, digital dosing pumps etc. Induction Motors, Electrically operated Actuators (mainly Rotork and Auma’s), Variable Speed Drives/Soft Start Units, Star/Delta Starters, LV Switchgear, Lighting, Sockets, Distribution Boards, ACB operation, Generator connection/disconnection, RCD testing, Managing contractors, Issuing Permits etc. Electrical work was carried out up-to a voltage of 1000V, with the occasional operation of HV switchgear along with the senior authorized Person.
  • Further Qualification as Multi-Skilled Field Service Engineer carrying out Instrumentation work such as repair and calibration of Pressure transducers, DP Flow meters, Electromagnetic Flowmeters, ultrasonic level Meters, pH monitors, turbidity monitors, Chlorine monitors, Manganese/Iron monitors, Telemetry Outstations with either PSTN, ADSL or 4G off site communications, Standalone PID controllers, Point to Point Radio systems and 4-20mA, 0-20mA, 0-10V, 0-5V Signal loops.
